2016 sr XM keeps losing connection on the drive. I had Altima before and never had the issue. Anyone??? has faced similar issue?

 

Could be a loose wire or bad xm antenna, As most will say take it to the dealership since it is under warranty.

 

Would driving in an area with lots of tree canopy interfere with the XM getting a good signal from the satellite?

 

It can, I know it does on my aftermarket XM radio's antenna

 

Tree canopies can interfere with the satellite signal. In most urban areas the satellite signal is duplicated by ground repeater stations, minimizing the problem in many cases. The repeater network allows us to get a signal in places like downtown areas, underpasses, etc. where satellite signals can't get to. If you aren't near a medium to large city you probably won't be within range of a repeater and will rely on the satellite signal.

My aftermarket Sirius receiver lets you see the signal strength for both satellite and ground repeater signals. I don't yet own an 8th gen, so I don't know if you can see that information in your car. There are repeaters on the XM band (even more than for Sirius due to the location of the XM satellites). I don't think this information was available on my 6th gen with a factory Sirius receiver.

 

mine looses signal too . Heavy cloud cover , trees, tall building and overpasses. By far worst xm reception of any vehicle I've owned, and slow to start up of xm radio as well.
