front license plate bracket holes

Hi all, I picked up my SR yesterday from the dealer. The car had already been mounted with the front license plate bracket. I would like to remove the bracket and leave the front without the license plate. Do you know of any good screw hole plugs that you would recommend? I found one from Amazon.com but it costs close to $30 including shipping and it doesn't even look very good (a very big plug that protrudes significantly).

Thanks for your recommendation in advance.

One of the dumbest engineering screw ups Nissan came up with. I was lucky not to have had my license plate mounted when I picked up my car. I got a quick release mounting bracket for my plate. Sorry don't know of any plugs.

I went to home depot and ruffled through their plug section and found plastic plug that would work. I sanded them down, primed and painted.

Thanks guys for the suggestion.

The license plate bracket is mounted to the part of the bumper that is painted in gloss black. If I go with Bumperplugs.com, I probably need to order some sort of black plug instead of the actual body color on the Maxima.

Use touch up paint to your car color.

I used black vinyl to cover the holes. Very easy DIY

I bought a pair of the bumperplugs from the link, it is pretty pricey, but it works very well. As per the installation instruction, I had to drill and enlarge the screw holes to fit the plug. The website acknowledges that our bumper is black instead of body color and recommends customers with newer Nissan to buy the Super Black color instead of the body color. It works out great.

The only thing is, this is not really a reversible mod. The plugs go in and it will be hard to take them back out. I will really have to drive carefully and not to get pulled over. If I get a fix-it ticket, I don't know how to mount the original plate bracket back on.

Search "sto n sho Nissan Maxima". A bit pricey but a great solution for Nissans short comings on their design. It allows you to securely mount your plate but remove it any time you wish and then replace it to avoid the fix it ticket for not having a front plate.

Got off my lazy butt and got the link

http://shop.bigmikesperformanceparts.com/Nissan_c13.htm

Search eBay and I think they are $10 less.

stlbluzoo11 did you remove that piece to wrap it and if so how does it come off? If not how did you overlap the wrap to keep it from lifting. tia.

Just ordered a set from bumperplugs. I was so angry when they dealer traded my platinum from Texas and they had already mounted the stupid front plate holder. Why in the world they would not just wait until delivery to mount that, I don't know.

It requires screws installed on the bottom side of the front lower number. They are out is sight from the front. You would have to get on the ground to see them. Lazy *** me hasn't installed mine yet just because I haven't been pulled over yet, though the design is great.

is there any alternative to drilling holes into the bumper? dont wanna drill holes on the front or bottom. is there any double sided tape strong enough to hold the front license plate bracket on and make it through highway winds? how about zip tie the bracket?

Went to San Francisco on the new year weekend. Got a parking ticket (the fine was freaking $81). I was already pretty mad when I see the ticket on my windshield, then I noticed that there was a second citation behind the parking ticket for "no front plate - VC5200". The no front plate citation is a correctable citation, so I need to put my front plate back on by. Luckily I am able to remove the hole plugs that I put in and screw the plate bracket back on. I just need to use a slightly bigger screw because I enlarged the original screw holes to accommodate the hole plugs. The original screws were #14, the bigger ones that I need now is 5/16".

I've already gotten the citation signed off by a police officer after I put the plate back on yesterday. The instruction on the citation indicates that I only need to pay a $10 fee since the correction is made and signed off by an officer, instead of making the full fine of $121 for the VC5200 violation.

Less than a week in to 2017 I have already been ticketed. Now that the tickets are paid, should I take the front plate off again or just leave it there?

For the folks who are looking for alternative to mount front plate without drilling holes to the bumper, here is an option:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Front-Bumper...-/141427736272

But since my bumper has already been drilled, I think it is easy enough to just put the dealer bracket back on in my case.

Not sure about 8th gen, but its a well known fact that even though 7th gen has a little bumper cutout for the the tow hook, there are no actual threads in the bumper to screw in.
Not knocking the product, just the fact that it may not be usable for the Maxima.

Thanks for point that out. I actually didn't know what is behind the little tab cutout. I just assumed there must be threads to screw in a tow hook. Interesting that it isn't the case. Thanks.
