Audio System Defect
Audio System Defect
There is a defect in the base audio system of the 2016 Maxima. It makes a buzzing distortion noise at low to mid volumes. It tends to go away if you turn up the volume which counterintuitive. It is particularly bad if listening to any talk format..sports, news, etc. I replaced the speakers with high quality aftermarket ones and the noise persisted. It is clearly coming from the head unit. The only way to make it disappear completely is to turn the bass gain all the way negative. I heard the same noise in other Maximas. Nissan acknowledges but does not know what is causing it and refuses to fix it claiming they designed it that way which is a laughable response. Who purposefully designs an audio system to introduce distortion?
I had it checked out. Nissan even sent out the regional factory rep who heard the noise. We then compaired it to another vehicle on the lot which did the same thing. Therefore Nissan concluded it was operating as designed. I have never heard such a noise from any audio system so there is clearly a problem but Nissan is blowing me off. I brought it to an independent car stereo shop who confirmed there is an obvious issue. The dealership agrees but says they have no fix.
