one more headlight conversion thread

so like so many others, I'm not pleased with the color difference between the drls and the head/fog lights. I have been reading through the threads about fixing this and understand about color temp and the choice being hid and led. I also understand that to do hid you have to install ballast and igniters and that hid have a relatively short life. What has not been clear to me is led bulbs. Are they straight drop ins, or do they need additional components like the hid? some of the bulbs i've looked at have cooling vanes. Do those go inside the reflector, or do they stick out the back? any tricks to doing led besides going through the wheel wells?

sorry to be so ignorant but after searching and going through threads these are things i'm still not clear on. Thanks for any info you can give.

I have installed 60w OPT7 Fluxbeam LEDs (30w each bulb) in the headlights for the lows, the color temp is 6000K, looks very nice, but A) the color is different than the DRLs, since the 6000K is more bluish. B) they are not as bright as HIDs if you are used to them previously.

Now I still don't know what is exactly the color temp of the DRLs, but surely 5000K bulbs for fogs and headlights would be closer to it than 6000K.

the fan in the LEDs is usually behind the LED locking structure, means it will always be outside the reflector and housing. and well, good LEDs come with this ballast looking Control Driver that usually manages brightness output and power efficiency and sometimes error canceling for cars CPUs.

As far as I know, there are only 2 ways to replace the headlights bulbs , either removing the whole bumper, or easier than that, go through the wheel well.

Thanks for the info. As far as the color, from what I've read 5000 is too yellow and 6000 too blue. I guess if there's something in between like a 5500 that might be closer but I haven't found that yet. For installation, there's a thread I found on here since I posted that shows taking off a screen in the engine compartment that, combined with going through the wheel well, seems to give the easiest access. That's probably what I'll try.

No .. not at all, even 4000 is not that yellow.

5000K is defiantly not yellow. It's pure white. like white white with no yellow or blue in it. even 6000 is not too blue, it has this blue hue in it. but 6000K is much bluer than the DRL color temp for sure.

I don't know how anyone could get to the low beam bulbs through the engine compartment, I sure couldn't even locate the bulb from there lol

after all, I guess even if the Low beam bulbs and the fogs are replaced with 6000K colored LEDs, they still will look amazing. many German cars come from factory like that, with their headlights bluer than the DRL.

this is the thread about going thru the top. ,it actually talks about going thru the wheel wells but show how to access the top to run wiring easily.

5000k leds. In person it's as close as you can get due to the different light structures.

Yes! ... that's what I mean ...

there is one more option ..just to go with 6000K HID for headlights, since the Xenon color temp gets whiter more it works and the more it warms up, so the blue hue goes off and it becomes near the DRL color hue.

Here are my 5000k HID low beams. Definitely more white than the DRL.

That looks good. My 5000k looks a little bluer, maybe because they're HID.

Got the LED's on ebay. Honestly the light output on my wife's HID's on her Hyundai is much better. Eventually I will probably switch.

I went with OPT7 HID kit 35W 6000k

not even close to the DRLs but looks great

The one installed in the left headlight is not performing well. It works sometimes but almost all the time is not working, I have contacted OPT7 to get it replaced.
