LED low beams flickering and dim down in heavy Texas rain tonight ?

Hi guys;

Here is the set of led low beam headlights I bought in May 2017 and have had not issues driving in the rain day or night till today.

https://www.xenonhids.com/low-beam-h...light-kit.html

We are having a tropical storm here in Texas. Today while driving at midnight on the way home from work it was raining hard w wind. A couple of times I hit some puddled water along the way. Half way home I noticed the left low beam headlight flickered and shortly after that worried that they were not on as they were not giving me a good light path ahead of me. I ended up driving home with high beams on for safety.

Got home and pulled into the garage. Got out of the car and in the dark garage notice they low beams were on, seem bright but not projecting to the garage wall a lot. I noticed small condensation on the left low beam headlight and not any on the right low beam headlight.

Any ideas what could be going on??

Should I just wait till the morning when everything dries from the wet car and see if they project normal or are the leds or cancellors about to fail?

I sent the merchant an email to their support page and await their response.

Tia,

Removed leds today and reinstall oem bulbs. Will take care to dealer tomorrow to have the condensation/fog look in the inside of the low beam housing looked at.

Hey Ian, I may be stating the obvious here, but it sounds like you problem is, in part, due to the gasket leaking moisture into the headlight, which could be shorting out the chips. Any idea whether the fan assembly is waterproof? Were you able to hear the fan spinning when you were back in your garage? If the fan stops working, the LEDs would most likely overheat, which can cause problems as well.

Yes, I hear the fans going all the time. The fan assembly look like partially waterproof, I guess. I started the rma process and waiting to hear from them. May get a set somewhere else.

Any suggestions as to where else to get them???

Here is a link to the ones I got them with cancellors.

I don't know of anywhere else you can get this particular brand. A lot of these LED headlights come from only a few suppliers, and the seller just slaps their brand on them. If you look closely, so many of the designs are identical, with only slight changes to the product color patterns (and of course their own marketing hype). I've posted this before, so maybe you've seen this LED shootout video before. The company that made the video sells LED headlight conversion kits, so take that into consideration, but the info is useful nonetheless.

There are a few unique ones around, however, like the Morimoto 2strokes (that's the ones I have in my car right now). Hopefully XenonHID will be able to replace them for you.

Calabs, can you link me to where you got your Morimoto 2strokes?

Is the output white 6k or bluish tint to them. I prefer the clear white look so they will match my fog lights.

no problems yet. They're website says 6000 K although the packaging states 5500 K. A slight hint of blue. The Enlight bulbs you're looking at are 6500 K so I would think they would be more blue. Here is the link for the 2Strokes.

Here is the link which has some photos after my install.

I recently picked up a HID system from them. Gonna give them a whirl and compare to the 2Strokes. I'm thinking distance will be better with the HIDs because of the more pronounced hot spot. If I get too much foreground lighting I may just bite the bullet and do a real retrofit with HID projectors. While the headlights are open I'll also do the switchback lighting from DD.

Calabs;

Thanks for the link and just ordered. Still awaiting for rma on the ones I have but, will try yours and see. The youtube video link you sent me gave them a good review. Will report back once installed after dealer fixes condensation on low beam housing. Taking the car to dealer next Tuesday to have them address the condensation spots in the low beam housing. He said would not be a problem and will give me a loaner during that time.

Thanks,

Ian B

You're welcome. Hopefully you'll have better luck with the 2strokes!

Almost forgot. Not sure if this would affect the stability of the bulb, but when I installed my 2strokes, I zip tied the driver using a hole in the chassis to stabilize them and to make sure the wire leading to the bulb was not under any stress from the weight of the driver. It may not make a difference, but I didn't want to have the driver rattling around and hitting things.

Well after finally getting my headlights replaced by the dealer, due to condensation in the assembly. I was able to install my Miramoto LED headlights low beam. I did get the replacement from XenonLEDs.com, but after such a hassle trying to get them replaced I don't want that product anymore. Here's a picture of what they look like after my buddy Quintin help me install them tonight. Below is a link to where you can get them. I feel the match my LED fog lights very well but I driving my drls look a little yellow compared to them. Still I'm very happy with them and the throw and the light pattern is excellent, very bright.

Sounds like it all worked out in the end...So the dealer replaced the headlight assembly under warranty?

They did but they have the worse customer service and will not recommend them. They wanted me to try swapping side and try this and that. When this happened at midnight coming home from work, I took them off right away and put the stock ones back on as I work overnight and can not see w the lights flickering on and off. It took them about a month to send the replacements after I send them all the components. They never told me what was wrong. In the meantime, someone here mentioned how good the morimoto look and shine and got a pair from amazing a discount card I had.
