2017 Platinum Rumble around 60mph

i just purchased my 2017 maxima Platinum and it has 9500 miles. I do not want to go to the dealer and waste my time so I was hoping someone has had a similar experience. When I drive at various speeds, there seems to be a slight viberation in the gas pedal and I can hear a rumbling sound. It happens mostly around 55-65 mph. It happens regardless if I’m accelerating or not. I wondered if it’s the motor or transmission just gearing down? My last car was super quiet so I’m just not sure if I’m not used to this or if it’s a valid concern.

If you can feel it in the pedal, it could be something with the tires or rotors. Like Kyletran said, I also get a slight jerk in the 40-45 mph range from the torque convert kicking in and out, but a lot of people get that so it doesn't appear to be a serious problem. My personal observation has been that this car seems to perform best at high speed, and most of the issues are with "around town" driving.

On a bad note, your misadventures with weird noises might just be beginning. While this car is mostly enjoyable, it rates quite poorly in the quietness department, as you will see after spending some time in this forum. Might have to get used to cranking the radio

i am noticing that it does it worse when I go around a curve to the left. The noise is almost none existent when I cut to the right. It’s there when going straight and to the left. Also my wheels were curbed pretty bad when I bought it. Could that have caused an issued? Maybe needs an alignment?

Well I'm not a mechanic, but I would guess if turning has an effect on the noise level, that should rule out any engine or transmission issues. Was it possibly in an accident by its previous owner?

no precious accident according to CARFAX. But that’s not 100% reliable. The wheels did have some bad curb rash on one side so maybe something happened there. I’m just not sure where to start. Back at the dealer I suppose since they knew the curb rash was there. But then I’m sure they are going to say none of that damage is covered under warranty. I’ve had it less than a week and this is so discouraging!

Well that would be pretty sleazy of them, it's a still practically a new car and they should at least try to make it right. Since they did not advertise it as a damaged car, they cannot hold that against you. I'd say just bring it in and show them the noise. Good luck on the repairs

Curb rash unfortunately seems to be a common occurance with our cars. (ask me how I know) You can usually get replacements on Ebay for around 250 bucks shipped. What you don't know is just how hard the car was curbed since the wheel might be bent ever so slightly. Get to a tire shop and have the curbed wheels and tires examined and also re balanced. Might be a good idea to rotate the tires front to rear. Is the car tracking straight ahead? If not then a 4 wheel alignment is also something to consider. I'd go to your sales manager and see if they really want to take good care of you at their expense. Let us know what gives. Best wishes

so I took it to my tire shop today and they moved the front tires to the back with no change. I had the ship owner ride with me and as soon as we exceeded 40mph he heard it and said that really sounds like a bearing. So I have made an appt next Wednesday at the Nissan dealer. I bought the car at an Infiniti dealer but they told me that I should go to my local Nissan dealer cause they are more familiar with the car. Curious to see what gives. The sounds is very noticeable when driving straight and it’s extremely loud when turning left. It is quiet as a church mouse when turning right.

I think you are on the right trail here. Wheel bearing or possbile C/V constant Velocity joint. Hopefully you are under 36K for the warranty to cover this. Good news is that the noise is loud and that leads to getting it fixed the 1st trip in. Is the noise coming from the curbed wheel side? It all might be related so it would be good to check for a slightly bent rim as well just to be sure (Even thouigh the tire guys may have done this too) At the dealership, you might also ask about who fixes curbed wheels. There is an outfit that goes to the dealership and does them on the spot. Good luck and keep us posted.

If it is the wheel bearing - it will continue to get worse. Sounds like a groaning or running over rumble strips.
