New Maxima Paint Problem
New Maxima Paint Problem
I have had the car under 2 weeks and the paint is already having problems. Theres been a paint chipping problem on the rear bumper and the driver door (small looking nicks). Does anyone know if Nissan warranties against this for a pretty much brand new car? Its outrageous the paint is already having problems. Also, the dealer sticker they put on the car was removed and it appears to have taken the clear coat with it. On my 2000 Maxima, the paint started having stone chips years later-if that.

I suggest you read and familiarize yourself with the Nissan New Vehicle Limited Warranty, which is a separate booklet from your Owner's Manual.
CORROSION COVERAGE (PERFORATION FROM CORROSION)
Any body sheet metal panel supplied by Nissan found to have developed perforation (rust through) due to corrosion in normal use is covered for 60 months, regardless of mileage, subject to the exclusions listed under the heading “WHAT IS NOT COVERED”. No additional rust proofing applications are required. Perforation is a condition in which any body sheet metal panel has corroded from one surface through to another.
WHAT IS NOT COVERED GENERAL EXCLUSIONS
This warranty does not cover damage, failures or corrosion resulting from or caused by:
Failure to operate the vehicle in accordance with the Owner’s Manual
Misuse, such as using the vehicle to tow
Failure of a component not covered by warranty
Racing and competitive driving
Theft, vandalism, fire, or flooding (including engine water ingestion)
Accident, collision, being towed
Repairs performed by anyone other than an authorized Nissan dealer
Glass breakage, unless resulting from defects in material or workmanship
Normal wear and tear, including dings, dents, chips, or scratches
Damage caused by any automated or manually operated car wash or by using a pressure washer

+1 ...normal wear...
i recommend backing off other cars to lower chances of chips.
i got fresh paint on my front end once, and it was only a matter of time, normal chips etc started appearing.... with in a year
or get a clear bra...if you are that concerned
by the way , silver is possibly to best color of all to not show blemishes... just saying...

Clear bra bro. I've used them on almsot all my cars and no issues.
Or u can have your bumper wrapped if a shop can wrap it close to factory color. Wrapping it is cheaper.
I did my clear bra myself. Material cost was $250.

How do you get paint chips on your rear bumper. Do you drive in reverse a lot, and at highway speeds? No, I'm serious, how does this happen? By any chance, when you park at home or at work is your rear bumper near a gravel roadway?
No, I dont . And all im saying is the paint is chipping on that part of the car; has the same appearance one gets paint damage from rocks on the highway (which the car rarely has been driven on yet). So its just abnormal to have a paint problem like this early on.

Well, with all the chipping (flaking off?) on the rear bumper it would behoove you to see what Nissan says about why this would be happening when it is a stretch to think this is caused by road rash. Let us know.
let us know what you do. this is very abnormal for such a newer vehicle
even if u didnt wax or take care of the paint for 5 years straight u may not see paint blemishes.
pics will help ur cause too. lets see this rear bumper
