Baby Max?
Not at all bad, and, like all Altimas, this will sell, especially with buyers who like a very conservative look. But I have grown to like the V-motion grille, Which this Altima does not have, I don't like the foglight treatment, and the back portion of the rear fenders is suggestive of the rear of a boat. I feel no pain in my nuts (they haven't been kicked by this design), and prefer my Maxima.
Nice for an Altima
But I still much prefer my Max. Still looks sportier, and I think our interior is much nicer. Never been a fan of the tablet stuck to the dashboard look, I like the Maxima's console better.
I had a thought. With the increase in wheelbase, is it possible Nissan is trying to separate the two by moving Altima towards a legit full size family hauler while leaving Maxima as a sportier, more upscale mid-sizer?

Also worth noting that the AWD on this Altima is not avail with the more powerful engine option . I suspect it’s due th the CVT.
The maxima is is an enthusiast car, especially in SR trim. This Altima is not. People are making a big deal of this just to stir crap up . I’m a car person, not tied to a brand . If I just wanted family car, I’d go accord over this Altima.

If you look at the camo pics you can still make out the grille shape and they are not the same.
Just to clear a few things up....The AWD can only be had with the 180 HP 2.5. If you want to step up to the the turbo four variable-compression 2.0-liter just introduced in the Infiniti QX50 with 248 hp....You lose AWD.
I love the looks of that car, but those choices ruin it for anyone that is performance minded. I would take the 3.5 all day.

The current Maxima is quite a car, especially to have this vehicle design released in the 2015 calendar year. There was and is nothing close! Toyota and Honda are emulating this look but it took them over 2+ years to get their not so great efforts on the street. I still have people tell me my Coulis Red 16 Platinum, bought new is a stunner, something that happens alot over the 2 1/2 years I have had this car.

2019 Altima "AWD" will be slip and grip; 100 front drive with 50% to the rear on real slippage such as experienced in SNOW. Same system as the Rogue. Might have a low speed lock like the Rogue. It's no canyon carver, but a brilliant idea.

I hear this Pro Pilot assist is something coming to the 19 Maxima as well. Over all, the 19 should keep the Maxima very competative. Selfishly I have hated to see more maximas on the road but there is a nod of approval that others have discovered what a value this car is. The list prices are overstated but the net cost is quite reasonable.

This website suggest the Max has been selling better than it ever has since 2007,

So maybe there still is a future for this car!
Ditto on that, I'm glad they're not everywhere, like Camry and Accord. Nonetheless, I hope Nissan sells enough of them them that its worthwhile for them to keep the Maxima brand alive. Since driving mine around, I've had at least 3 people tell me they used to have a Maxima, and they all had fond memories of theirs.

Nissan sells 60K Maximas on average comparing to 280K Altimas.
Yes, Nissan has told us that their intent is to sell around 70K Maximas each model year, and they consider the Maxima to be their flagship. They also told us they consider the Altima to be their high volume 'everybody's car, and want to sell as many Altimas at they can make.
Interesting tidbit on Motor Week March 31 - Mitsubishi is now part of the Nissan-Renault family. Motor Week said the improved looks of the latest Mitsubishi models shows the influence the Nissan design team is having on their product line.

The 2019 Altima looks good , don't realty care for that big grill or the chicklet display. 2019 Altima is not a Maxima and never will be. Which is the way it should be. My lease on my 2016 Maxima Platinum is up in 5 month's. I plan on getting another Maxima Platinum either a 2018 or 2019. One thing I have noticed is the price of the Maxima has steadily increased since my last lease. Who knows what deals will be around when my current lease ends.
Still love my Maxima

I just hope the influence doesn't work the othe way around. Mitsubishi's quality is horrible, considerably worse than Nissan (which is just average)
I tend to think that Nissan's major role in Mitsubishi is on the design/styling end. Motor Week liked the design and performance of the new Eclipse-Cross, but Consumer Reports tested it and was not impressed. I personally would not be interested in a Mitsubishi product at this time, even though the Mitsubishi Zero was probably the best plane on earth between 1938 and around the time the North American Mustang arrived on the scene around 1942/43. Mitsubishi is sort of in the situation Hyundai was in during the mid-1990s, when I had doubts they would ever be a viable brand in the U.S. Somewhat the same situation existed for Mazda. So I am not quite yet ready to blackflag Mitsubishi. They are not that unreliable, but their products just don't seem to drive as well or feel as well-made or hold their resale value or have the features we see in most Asian automotive brands. Suzuki is another Asian automotive brand for which a I see a doubtful future in the U.S..
Hey, that's my car. Hard to walk away from it without looking back isn't it? My wife stopped asking, "What are you looking at?" Wonder why they dropped that wonderful Coulis color?
Nissan hasn't been an influence long enough for that to be the case. That car was already well into development before then.
