I totally agree with you.
I too am concerned that Nissan will drop the Maxima in the coming years.
In my mind the Altima could not replace the Maxima as Nissan's top of the line car.
Even with the 2019 Altima Platinum , the features still don't match the current Maxima's
Let me add the Maxima is still the best looking car on the road today ! (Ya I am biased)

Sounds like the turbo will only be on FWD versions:
A range of advanced models
The 2019 Altima will be offered in a range of trim levels – S, SR, SV, SL and Platinum. All five come equipped with the standard 2.5-liter engine and are available with Intelligent All-Wheel Drive. In addition, Altima SR and Platinum grades are available with the advanced 2.0-liter VC-Turbo engine (front-wheel drive only). And, an exclusive launch edition based on the Platinum VC-Turbo will be offered in limited quantities and open for reservations in early summer 2018.
If I can't have the turbo and AWD together then I don't want it.

They didn't redesign the 3.5L by 60% to get rid of it in a few years. I think it'll stay.

Fair enough. Do you think the V6 is tapped out strapped with the current CVT? Even if they keep the V6 for next gen and make it stronger. I cant imagine a CVT and AWD as well....

I think it would be cheaper to upgrade the CVT than ditch a fairly fresh engine. They'll probably increase horses to 320-325 with an upgraded CVT.
The Maxima has stayed in the 290-300 HP level for a long time. Maybe the tech isn't there for the CVT to handle more. If they build a 325+HP Maxima with a 8-10spd and AWD then it will threaten the Infinity line. They would have to charge more for the Maxima and add bits to justify the charge.

I am hoping against hope that there will be a ninth generation Maxima. There are rumors in the back halls at Franklin TN that the Z is on borrowed time, but no strong words regarding dropping the Maxima.
With FWD, I don't see the need for much more HP. I think something between 305 and 310 HP would be fine. This is a sporty family sedan, not a boy toy or track car. The current CVT should be able to support HP in the 305 to 310 range with either FWD or AWD.
I will have my ears close to the ground, listening for any clue as to whether we will have a ninth gen Maxima or not. If the current CVT continues to be dependable, that would make producing a ninth gen a little easier. It was problems with the CVT Nissan planned to put in the 2015 8th gen Maxima that resulted in the 8th gen arriving late as the 2016 model.

Where did you find a full list of the features of the Platinum or any model of the '19 Altima for that matter, all I can find is this on Altima Edition one. https://www.nissanusa.com/cars/2019-altima/edition-one/ and this http://nissannews.com/en-US/nissan/u...tima-press-kit. Thanks
