Wheel replacement for 17 Platinum

Worth fixing or getting a whole new wheel? My dad completely ate a curb for lunch and its pretty bad. It looks much worse then the picture. $428 for a new one at a local dealer. I personally don't see him fixing it or replacing it but I want to give him the best advice. Imo, its worth replacing the wheel. Also if anyone knows of a place that sells a brand new OEM wheel for a much less price of $428. Please let me know. I am currently hunting as we speak just in case he wants to replace it. My main concern is winter coming with it rusting etc and breaking down since the scratches are pretty bad some a little deep.

Nissan ESTORE HAS THEM FOR $325ISH AND IF YOU PUT ESTORE2018 AT CHECKOUT IT REDUCES THE PRICE BY $50 TO $ 60 DOLLARS.

Winter weather will not hurt that wheel in the condition it is in as shown in your photo. They are aluminum and aluminum does not rust, so tell your mom that weakening of the wheel via rust is not a problem. Until you can replace or repair it (if you even do), I would just clean it real well with lacquer cleaner and a rag and then shoot it around the scuff line with clear acrylic clear coat spray paint. This will keep moisture from getting under the existing scarred clearcoat and causing a very slight, but unsightly aluminum corrosion on the non-scarred sections of the wheel. Your wheels will hold up much better should you decide to do nothing. That's my take.

Thanks guys. He is okay replacing and knew it was bad when it happened. I am trying to use the ESTORE2018 code and it wont work. I get this error This coupon code is for an item in a specific catalog. Your shopping cart must contain at least one item from that catalog.

Code was not good for OEM replacement parts. Got the wheel for $428.06 free shipping to the dealer. Suppose to be here tomorrow or the next day. Lesson learned I think for him. Just avoid curbs if all possible lol. Then again he will be 73 soon. I think his old age is finally catching up with driving sadly. I even told him in a nice way how can this happen?!?! You have 360 degree cameras and mirrors that move down to help you park against curbs.

I have a Platinum too and you have no idea how careful I drive my car and I have hit curbs too (I'm in my 40's) . The Maxima has that problem with blind spots. So far I have a a quarter of the damage you showed in your pics in 2 Wheels, and Im just going to leave it like that. It has not affected the balance or alignment of the car . I have a 20 yr old daughter who is afraid of driving the car because she can't see the curbs . When I'm turning left in a traffic light at night or under bad weather conditions I try to keep as far as I can from the median because I have gone over those a few times...

Why are the original wheels so expensive compared to the accessory wheels? https://lithianissanparts.com/nissanparts/index.cfm?siteid=216707&action=accessories&itemid= 416037&catalogid=211 I could get two almost for the price of one original wheel. Crazy... I do like the original wheels better I must say. Even the 19 inch sport wheels are cheaper then the originals. https://lithianissanparts.com/nissan...&catalogid=211

There you go, $270 shipped, and you can repair this one for future mishaps. To note, if you're patient, have an orbital sander and 150-240-320-600 then some 1000 grit sand paper, you can actually make all of that disappear. Takes time and patience, and it won't be perfect, but you would have to really look to see it. That said, get the used wheel from hubcaphaven and call it a day.

Forgot to mention, if you do opt to repair this one for future use, tire can't be on the rim when using the sander...had to be stated, I'm sure someone out there will read what I said and try to do it with the tire on.

Ask your dealer which wheel repair service they use...if the dealer uses that company, they have to be a good quality company. Check to see if your wheel can be repaired. You will be suprised at what they can repair.

I bought 2 wheels from a company on Ebay for around $150.00 each for our Maxima's just in case I or the wife.scraped a wheel. Search Ebay for "Nissan Maxima 18 inch factory wheel" many reputable companies with excellent feedback are selling wheels.

I am happy with my purchase, quality job on my wheels.

Go to Car-Parts.com you can look at your local Salvage yards in your vicinity. If you are really luck like me you can get a rim like I did for a good price.
I purchased one a month ago for $100 bucks shipping included. I prefer a a full size spare oppose to a donut.
It was not perfect but it was the last of three coming off a wrecked vehicle they had posted only two days prior. You may find one close enough to drive and pick up without paying for shipping.

Also EBAY. I have replaced two wheels over the last three years. My average price was 230 bucks shipped. I use our Platinum's camera just about every time we park near a curb

That wheel can be repaired for $200 or less... They will fix the rash and refinish... No need for a new wheel...

Or get it repaired for $120-140.

MSRP is actually $503.60. As I mentioned earlier. I cant figure out why these base model wheels are so much more then SR and Medallion wheels. Its crazy!

Ethically, it is the wrong thing to do. The other issue is even if you wanted to - every rental Maxima I have gotten already had all the wheels curbed.
