Program replacement remote

So I'm a former Tech and used to program remotes on cars all the time. If I'm researching correctly, this cannot be done on our cars. Is that correct? Anyone seen them program a remote and know they actually need to use one of their computers?
Thanks!

Yes, you are correct. Only a tech with the proper software can program the keys. During the programming, one key is designated as key 1, and the other as Key 2. I didn't see it, but when we bought our used Maxima it only came with 1 key. My wife took it back a few days later when the "key guy" the dealership uses was scheduled to be there.
