where to get another door/ignition key?

Hi guys

When I bought my maxima last month, i've got only a key and a remote.

I would like to have a "spare" at home just in case. I bought a remote from e-bay and it should arrive soon. Also, I understand that it is very easy to re-program.

How about the key? I heard these keys have a chip in them. What would you do to get another one for your car, besides the stealership? Can they be "programmed"?

Thanks.

The remote is fairly easy to program yourself. As far as the key goes, you have to take it in to the dealership to have it cut but unfortunately they have to program it. That something we can't do ourself. Since that you have to bring your proof of ownership such as registration and the working key so they can do a "go ahead" to cut your blank key and program it. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

You dont need a working key to CUT a key at a dealership, they cut it according to your VIN. As for the programming of the key chip, if the dealer can do it, then im sure some kind of technologically updated garage remote/alarm remote technician can do it as well. Or maybe we just have all this shyt in NY and u guys dont.

I bought from them before, cut the key at walmart for 99c and took it to dealer to program for $40.

Yeah, the dealer wants $52 for the key and $43 for programming.

Have any of you tried http://www.streetkeys.com ?

dayam, that hurts brutha. my dealer cut and programmed mine for free. I didnt even buy the car from them. Try going to the dealership where the car was sold (if possible) and tell them you were thinking of getting a new Armada, and by the way have a key that needs to be cut and programmed. Ask if they could cut and program it while you test drive the new car....

Nice... This trick wont work here...

I've got the keyless remote and programmed it but for the key itself I will wait a little. I just spent $200 for 2 O2 sensors

Thaks. I'll keep you posted.
