Sirius XM traffic randomly started working

Yesterday I noticed red/green traffic lines on my GPS on the way home from work. I've never seen these and I don't have the Sirius XM traffic package for the GPS unit. I used the GPS and it functions exactly like I would expect it to if I had the traffic package. Not that I'm complaining, but I'm curious to know if this has happened to anyone before or if anyone knows why it randomly started?

Can you access Sirius XM radio stations? Sometimes they turn it on for free over holiday’s as a promotion. Maybe that’s what happened...

Traffic is at an "additional" cost to a regular subscription. I found it useful going back and forth to work and on trips. Since I basically do neither now, I dropped the "Traffic" part.
