Phone Mount for 8th Gen

Hi all,

I'm in the market for a phone mount since I don't have car play in my 2016. I'd like to use my iphone X for navigation/traffic I don't want to pay the monthly cost for SXM Nav info and an updated map.

Which brand of mounts are you guys using? I don't typically like suction cup dash/windshield mounts as they never seen to stay in place. Any good alternatives out there?

I recently dumped XM after about 8 years and just use Pandora in my Altima. I bought this and it works tremendously.

Toaster, I suggest checking out ProClip. Following link is for the mount. Note you'll also need to buy the device holder for your specific phone from them, which you'll find on this site. I've had in my 2005 Maxima for many years, love it.

I use this one in all my cars. In the Max is clamps solidly into the front right-hand vent over the GPS. Sturdy, does not slip over rough roads, and about $5 bucks in-store Walmart, and is identical to what you'll find on-line here for a couple of $$ more:

+1 for the ProClip. A little pricey but they feel like they were built with the car.

I would recommend APPS2Car. it’s magnetic and goes into CD slot over the main screen.

The CD slot mounts are great, in my opinion.

Thanks for the suggestions! I really like the ProClip, but do you find that it's mounted a bit low?

The CD slot mounts look good too. Are the phones stable when driving over bumpy roads? I wouldn't want it to fall off and under a seat while driving.

Toaster, no, I have never found where ProClip mounts to be too low. I understand how some might prefer their phone higher. But the trade-off is then you're blocking something. The benefit of the ProClip is not only is it more sturdy than most phone holders and seamlessly fits into the interior better than most, but you're not blocking anything whatsoever.

I worry that the vent clips would break the vent louvers, would make for a very expensive phone mount!

That crossed my mind when I was looking. The one I bought is pretty padded where it grabs the louvers....Not worried about it breaking anymore.

I don't believe that poses a problem at all. They way the mount clip fits in between 3 louvers makes for a solid surface. It grabs a center louver, and is kinda locked in there by pressure from the louvers above and below, although not enough to bend the louvers. Also, where I mount it, the base of the vent mount rides the left side of the louver frame, adding additional support. No way that is a weak mounting. It is plenty strong to keep my rather large and heavy Android firmly in place. I mounted the included thin metal "magnet plate" towards the bottom of my phone (between the protective cover and the phone itself) so I can mount the phone rather high away from GPS/radio screen. Works very well for me.

Here's the mount I use in my maxima. I typically dont like vent mounts, but this works really well with the maxima. Chord doesn't block the screen either if it's plugged in. Got it on Amazon. Dont have the link,, but it's made by Torras

Agreed! At first I thought the same that it might be mounted a little too low but after having it for a few days I realized it was just right. Not to mention it is also co-located with the USB port so no need for lengthy cords.

With the little hinged door open, my phone fits snugly between the door and the right temp adjustment ****, in landscape mode.

The only phone mount that I'll use is the Scosche Magic Mount.
Here Here
is a link to the vent one that I use. It mounts perfectly into the vent in my 2018 Maxima and the phone site on the lip below it vertically. If you don't like the vent one then you can order one that sticks to the dash. These are the best looking ones imo. They aren't bulky. They don't stick out a bunch.

Has anyone bought the Weathertech cup based phone mount. It looks pretty good and I would prefer that over a vent mount.

That sure won't happen with the ProClip, highlighted above.
