8th Gen SR Annoying Torque Converter?
8th Gen SR Annoying Torque Converter?
Hey all I recently got a 2017 Maxima SR with salvage title and have been experiencing engine braking around 20mph and you can feel a distinct disengage of the braking at 13mph-ish. I'm a pretty sensitive driver that doesnt drive aggressively(99% of the time) so I like my drive to be predictable and smooth.
What I read was this could be the torque converter disengaging but I dont get why they didn't make it up to me to put it in manual mode and use my paddles to downshift to my desired gear to engine brake. Id also rather use my brake pads instead of the CVT to wear out overtime. Honestly find this so stupid. As I ride mainly in stop/go traffic and daily commute, Why disrupt the consistency of coasting with engine braking that disengages at 13mph causing me to adjust my brakes as my cars momentum is now different. If you brake more aggressively you cant feel this as much because you pass that threshold at a faster rate but when coasting down past 13mph it "shifts" and you feel it fairly decently.
When in Manual mode and coasting down in 3rd or 4th it's a smooth and consistent coast and it feels good and linear.
Any way to get rid of this annoying and distracting engine braking instead of me having to force the CVT to manually adjust to the next "manual" gear to avoid this?
P.S. I have disabled the Intelligent engine brake system in the "Chasis Control" menu in the vehicle steering dashboard screen even though it's an emergency feature and shouldn't affect this but left the trace control on in case I enter an unknown corner too fast.
Thanks for your time

I’m wondering if I’m experiencing the same thing as you. I just commented about this very similar thing you’re describing except once the RPMs hit 1000rpms, perhaps the torque converter is releasing causing a slight acceleration/surge causing me to adjust and hit the brakes harder. The Rpms also jump to 1200ish then bounce back down. All while driving in 30mph zones braking/driving.
I'm not getting that *****. My issue is the compression braking that slows the car and the torque converter disengages the slowing at around 13mph which makes the drive feel inconsistent when coming to a stop which is the annoying bit
Bruh... I already wrote saying I did disable it even though that is NOT engine braking but am emergency feature. It is not standard compression braking like what were talking about. That feature is irrelevant
