Hello, i'm in the market for a 2016 Nissan Maxima Platinum edition and I see a lot of thread about putting a 2018 head unit into a 2017 and a 2017 head unit in to a 2016...

My question is, can I put a 2018 head unit in a 2016 Maxima?

I'm looking to get android auto and apple car play

 

I looked up the 2018 head unit on a Nissan parts site ($3100 on sale) and it said it would not fit a 2016 Max.

 

I think people have dont it before on this sub, you just have to make sure its the version with the Bose audio or not depending on what trim Maxima you have.

 

Boys I found an option to update head-unit software vie SD.

to access update menu, follow the instruction (found it in FSM):





then select confirmation, then system update.
my unit's version: 139




I want to test if we can update our units, and install android auto+apple carplay without replacing it.
Can someone with a newer version,that has android auto and apple carplay, backup his SD card and upload it for us? i will test it on my unit. it is non-Bose version. (you can see from the dusty unit, i have nothing to lose )
i think its useful to use a backup software to fully backup your SD card, like AOMEI Backupper, it is free software.

if i manage to update successfully, i will create a new topic, where everyone with a newer version can upload his SD files!

If it matters - this is covered well enough on another thread here (Apple Carplay) that I got it done on my 2016 Platinum and can now use Android Auto on it. Cheers!

Your 2018 has both AA and Carplay already.

2017 added Carplay. 2018 added both

 

no my 2018 SV model head unit don't have aa and acp that's why I am seeking help find a solution.

 

It works perfectly I jus did a swap for my 2016 maxima platinum with a 2018 headunit. Jus change the camera settings to avm if its sr/platinum model, in the hidden settings.

 

Could you also remind which trim was 2018 donor? As soon as you have platinum you had to use SR and higher if I'm correct because of BOSE audio?

SR and up for it to work and if the swap will work in fit.the guy at junk yard said he won't sell it to me because it won't fit I need to knw for sure any ideas please

 

Should work. Ask seller for #vin number of donor. Or trim. should be from SR/SL/Platinum.
if that is unknown, what I noticed as well, Bose radio unit version has brown usb port from back side.

 

Just check the Trim and vin of the doner car.
