got the entire unit out and reinstalled and the connection clip was broken

all for nothing

now have to find another unit

have them take picture of the connections on back

Having the same problem. I put a 2018 Bose H/U in a 2016 SL and my backup camera won't work. Looking for any information / advice.

 

I had the same problem in my 2016 SL. Check the hidden settings on the headunit. If the new headunit is coming from a platinum model with the all around camera system you would have to change it in the hidden settings menu to rear view camera only. That solved the problem for me.

 

Were you able to get the 2018 unit working? I’m currently looking at a 25915-9DE1B/A for my 2016 SR

 

If that doesn't do it, check the connection for the camera wire on the back of the radio. It may be loose or not plugged in, there are several connectors going into the back of the HU so it's possible that one may have been overlooked.

 

I have swapped the stereo out of my 2016 SR with Bose to a 25915-9DE1A. Everything seems to be working fine other than I am noticing a possible electrical noise when changing temperature on the AC controls. The head unit came with the ac controls and I used the new ones that came with it. Any ideas on why it would be making a noise I don’t remember it doing it before.

I have Apple CarPlay on my 17 Max and it supports google maps just fine.

I joined this forum I bought my used 2016 Platinum. It was a surprise/huge letdown that there was no Android Auto but I hadn't even thought about it before buying the car. Oops.

Thankfully, you all have been thrashing this issue over for several years now! Lol.

I've had my car since Sept 2015 but this upgrade is going to breathe new life into it. Now I gotta find a buyer for my old unit...

 

Hello, i have a 2016 Platinum and need to know which part number to use for my install as well.
I want to do the same 2018 unit for Android Auto just need the part number.
Did you have any issues with steering wheel buttons, 360 cameras, backup cameras or anything not working?
Also will i need to get a new SD card for anything too?

Hello all...I'm hoping you all could help me with purchasing the right head unit. My wife has a 2016 murano platinum (bose system) and its one year before CP would become available. Similar to the maxima situation here. I have heard of units being changed out but nothing has been as detailed or extensive as here. About 5 months ago, I had purchased NavTool for her car which is absolute garbage and my wife is pissed because now even Bluetooth will not work. The Bluetooth issue is my fault I went into setup on the head unit and messed with it and broke it. SO to save my marriage I want to get a 2017 head unit and get that installed, the problem is I do not know which model I should be looking for. Our car has 360 camera too if that matters at all. Would any of you be able to help me survive Corona with very mad wife.

 

My 2016 Max Platinum has the BOSE system.
If you didn't have BOSE it'll be a different part number. I sourced my part number in this thread then double checked online to be sure.
The part number I looked for and bought used/takeoff on eBay is 25915-9DE1B
For me it was plug and play.
It came with the SD card installed. I did nothing but connect the new unit. All cameras and steering wheel functions are as they were. No issues.

Thanks for your report and its successful conclusion. Of all the mods out there, day to day, this one makes the most sense. One take away I get its to be sure you have a matched SD card specifically for the unit you buy to upgrade your 2016+ with.
Now then, there are enough 2019-2020s out there that I am wondering if their radio units can be back swapped to the 2016-2018 Maximas? I do understand the head unit is made by a different manufacturer and dispenses with the whole notion of an SD card. Anyone know if this can be done?

Thank you all for all the hard work to update our console without requiring to update the whole car just to get car play.

After reading this thread, and looks like a 2018 fits a 2016 model (to take advantage of Android also), I am about to pull the trigger and make the purchase for a 25915 9xx1x for my 2016 platinum.
The problem is, these are difficult to find and have been coming across models such as 25915 9DE3A for example... the 3 is throwing me off... I have been looking for a 1 for my version vs the 0. Anyone have any insight? When i call to get information they confirm this is being pulled out of an 11 speaker setup but I am concerned that it will not fit the 2016 model because it goes against the grain on this thread.

 

11 Speaker means it is a Bose factory system. Head unit may not work if you don't currently have Bose system.

 

Understood, an I have the platinum edition with the Bose system.
This thread suggests that I need to look for a "1" instead of the "0"... but what happens when it's a 3?

 

Unless the 3 denotes a 2019-2020 head unit? Not sure otherwise

I've been following this issue off and on for the last few years. I'll think about swapping out then keep faith for an OTA (since I don't drive as much) then get frustrated again. I have a '16 Maxmia SL w/Bose Integration and I'm torn between these three head units. Any help as to which would be best for me to do a plug and play? I've never done anything of the sort before. I love all the hard work as it seems in the realm of possible so thanks so much in advance.

I don't see any mention of Carplay or Android on the last 2 options. Do you want Carplay? If so option one works but I am sure other vendors might have a 2018 Bose headunit which should work for you without the high price. That would get you both Car Play and Android.

 

Yeah, I definitely want the Carplay. That's my whole reason for looking to upgrade. I've been having trouble finding other options that say they will line up with my '16 SL though.

 

Keep checking Ebay or find an auto wrecking yard. They also have a parts system for lists what is wanted across the US. Be mindful on the actual part number you need for a Bose Maxima system and that it includes the original SD card.
In 2019 Nissan dropped the SD card radio and went with a newer system that provides USB update support as well as the Car Play and Android standard. I wonder if that unit might also be plug and play?

 

Dunno, I found this '17 one though however it doesn't mention if it supports carplay or either the bose system in the SL.

Looks like it might be out of a SV based on the interior shot of the driver's seat. Has the thigh support and what looks like perforated leather. But you need to verify the part number to be sure. I am not sure the 2017 supported car play either?

 

Since I swapped my 2017 SV head unit for a 2018, I haven't had the "sonar" aural warnings when the corners were too close to something. I know the 2018 head unit has older nav software than the rest of my car, and I'm tempted to buy a 2018 nav update to see if that fixes the problem. Has anyone attempted a nav update after swapping a head unit?

 

I would bet that this would not fix your issue. Somewhere there is a hidden setup menu so the unit can "see" the sonar inputs and the back up camera. Do a search for the hidden menu discussion buried somewhere on this site. Beyond that maybe a service tech could say if it is a dealer accessible fix. Sorry to hear of the problems.

 

If you're referring to the diagnostic menu on the head unit, I've been there and wandered around. I can't find anything regarding sonar there. The only settings for it appear to be on the instrument cluster. Is there another diagnostic menu on the instrument cluster?

I got a great deal on a '17 Head Unit (Part# 9DD1C) for my 2016 SL, and it worked perfectly right from the start. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread and provided all the great information - especially those who took the risk to see if this was even possible.

Now, my next question is, has anyone used one of the Wireless Carplay Dongles/Adapters to use CarPlay wirelessly? I've seen CPLAY2Air and Carlinkit 2.0... Curious as to how well these work.

I just bought this hoping it would work for wireless carplay and when I plug it in I get "Apple CarPlay failed to start. Please confirm the compatible device is operating normally. Consult Apple for the compatible software versions."

Hello! I have read almost every comment on this thread and am VERY interested in purchasing a 2017 head for my 2016 maxima platinum. Those of you who did this, how did it turn out in the long run? Did you notice any difference in any of the other functions. Did you regret the decision to change?

 

Hey so i followed this thread and it worked out perfectly. I did not regret the decision to change, it changed my whole driving experience. I believe CarPlay is a must for iPhone users and cars. I recently traded in my maxima platinum for a new cx5 signature and that CarPlay is even better. I digress. It worked out in the long run so almost 2+ years it ran flawlessly. Everything worked with buttons on the unit to the touchscreen. Lmk if i can help answer any other questions. I'll try my best as I don't have the car anymore.
