'16 Max Engine Knock (1400 rpm)
Issue started approximately 18K miles just over the 2 year ownership mark. It is a very distinct and metallic, cyclical knock that occurs right at 1400 rpm. Does not always happen but seems to occur after short trips after being parked for a few hours. You can tell when it's going to happen at engine start-up as the engine is "noisier" - at it's worst almost sounding like a diesel. Dealer has replaced the fuel injectors which has quieted the engine but made no diff for the 1400 rpm knock.
The 1400 knock occurs while revving the engine in park, while driving in full transmission auto or by manually keeping the CVT trans in what is reported as "first gear". It is interesting that the CVT's perceived 1 > 2 shift seems to be at around 1400 rpm, however the sound does strongly seem like it's coming from the engine.
Not sure if I'm violating a forum rule (will delete if so) but this is what it sounds like. I am attaching a link to my OneDrive public side where you can see a video of it happening. Two full months of dealer work (while I drove loaners) but nothing was replaced other than the injectors. Here is what it sounds like alttelcoguy OneDrive Link.
Please forgive the extraneous noise as the cell phone mic is pretty sensitive!

I'll see if I can get a YouTube loaded up. This one sounds so very much like a bearing knock but the behavior is inconsistent - doesn't do it all the time. Oh yeah, the dealer has heard it on my vehicle and the master tech has admitted to hearing it on at least one other engine.
Car has only been fed premium from only "name" stations (no independents) however the knock shows up almost every day without regard for fuel brand. This is not pre-ignition - it most definitely sounds like a single metallic element such as a main bearing. In other words it doesn't sound like multiple cylinders but just like a bad main bearing for example.
