Help Me Decide: 2018 Maxima Or Camry Or Accord

hi I'm in the market to purchase a car, my options are

used Nissan maxima SV/SL 2018/2017
2018 Toyota Camry SE 4 cycl
2018 Honda Accord Sport 4 cyc
2015-2016 Lexus ES350 (may be)

why I should pick the Maxima?
is it as reliable as the others? I heard of transmission issues

How reliable has the Nissan Maxima been?
2018 or 2017 ?
do you feel that the Nissan Maxima can reach 170K miles without any major issues?

You need to specify more. What are you going to use it for?

Camry, Accord those are 4 cylinders commute/family/efficient/workhorse type of vehicles.

Max is more for single/couple/ highway trip joyride type of vehicle.( I mean you can use it like those 2 but it’s not really a good choice)

Lexus ES is kinda like a big luxury Camry.

Any car can go beyond 170K with proper maintenance. But considering the fact that you’re shopping for a used vehicle I would say that only Camry is the most realistic choice.

Lexus would be an expensive car to maintain.

Get a Camry and GTF out of here with your silly request for help. Seriously, you're a brand new user, search the forum for this kind of data.

NisCal,

thank you - I was looking for a second car - something fun to drive, pick up kids from school - we have a Toyota highlander for our daily activities.
Camry and Accord sounds good however they are boring and dont have the options compared the Maxima.
i was looking into certified Used Maxima and they are priced the same as used camry and accords.

With awful resale value on the Maxima, it is by far going to be your best bang for the buck in every way

Well, there’s no other choice then! Maxima would be a great and fun car to drive. It has power, looks and it’s way more of car than those 4 cylinders you mentioned.

If you shop for a used Maxima make sure to get Platinum. Don’t go with SL unless it’s decently priced. But if you find Platinum don’t hesitate and drop a few dollars more or at least negotiate until dealer or owner agrees.

I'll echo this.. I paid a little more then I was originally going to for the Platinum (used 2017) and I couldn't be happier.. I've had the car a little over a month and I freaking love to drive it every single day.. The Platinum is so so nice.. Get tons of comments every where I go about how nice the car is..

Family of 5 and I take my kids to a practice, game, something almost every day in it.. We use my wife's car (Enclave) as our "Family" car but I still take my kids all the time in the Max..

I'd get the Accord or Camry. Compared with them, the Maxima is costlier to own and has questionable longevity. The VQ, which sounds horrible at high revs, isn't worth all the compromises.

edit: but if you get the Maxima get the Platinum.

A camry will last forever with zero issues. However it'll also leave u wanting more and wishing the infotainment was better (not that Nissans is anything special).

The accord is a very nice car, but in recent years, their reliability has gone way down. Probably the most practical of the 3 though.

The maxima, if taken care of and kept up to date with routine maintenance, should be pretty trouble free and will by far be your favorite of the 3. I am a former camry driver (also had an accord previous) and I can tell you from experience, the maxima is the nicest and most fun of the 3. I have zero regrets moving on from toyota. I have not had issues with the maxima (yet) as I only have 8k miles. I promise you though, you will not regret driving the maxima everyday

I've owned four Camry's (two 4 cyl, two 6 cyl, newest one 2016 (LE 4 cyl), and two Maxima's, 2005 SL and 2018 SV, since 1996.

If you want maximum reliability and resale value, get the Camry.

If you want power, orgasmic driving pleasure and comfort, and decent reliability (not great) go for any Maxima above S trim.

If you want driving fun don't look for it in a Max driving to and from school. Tha 8th gen Max excels on highways and expressways, not on 25 mph streets.

So you think a Camry or Accord will be more fun than a Max at 25 mph?

Wow, kinda disappointed in the forum responses.....I am on my fourth Maxima (1999, 2005, 2009, 2017). I have had no reliability issues. The last two had CVT's and never had any problems. The 2009 was kept until 156,000 miles with no major issues just normal issues with brakes and suspension. Totally satisfied with the 2017, it has more than enough power for my needs, fuel economy is great for a car with 300 HP and again reliability has been great. My only complaint is I wish the back seats had more leg room. Also, I travel at least once a month so I get a chance to drive many cars and the Maxima still stands out for me and I look forward to getting back to the Max. Not a fan of Toyota's, I know they last forever but the ones I have driven are very boring (4 bangers). admittedly, the Honda looks nice and the rear leg room is way roomier than the Maxima but I prefer a naturally aspirated V6 vs a turbo 4. Get a Maxima and stand out in the crowd!

I currently own '16 SV, owned it since new. I have 71.5K miles and not one issue. I change the oil every 4K and changed the CVT fluid @60K (all performed at dealer). Brake fluid was bled after 2yrs (was getting dark/contaminated). Zero dollars in repairs on this car for 3.5 years. My last car was '07 Altima 3.5SE; had 170K miles on it when variable valve timing and CVT went out (this was also a great car with zero issues up to that point); junked it at the dealer the next day and stepped right into my new Maxima (in 2016). I couldn't be happier!

Our responses have been few and relatively short because many of us who usually comment are probably burned out on raving about this little beauty. I'm sure many of us have even raved about it on other car sites. If you want to read a very good review I wrote on Edmonds just type in Edmunds 2017 Maxima and read all about it.

A great example of the silent majority of Maxima owners who know a great car by its looks and performance. Prospects need to consider what the real car cost is rather than the sticker price. If you want boring but solid, then step down to the Camry and see yourself coming and going many times a day. The Maxima still holds is own even with the Kia Hyundia and the rest unsucessfully aping the trend setting Maxima style.

thanks...somebody had to finally say it; too much trash talk about this car; especially the CVT (which I love, BTW).

You can get the Camry... and yes it'll probably last forever but the question is.... do you want to be stuck driving a Camry for 10 years? Ten long, boring, uninspired years?

I had had the misfortune of driving my friends Camry on a long road trip last weekend. It was inoffensive... that's about all

I bought my last Camry three years ago after having to regrettably say goodbye to my 2005 Max SL. After two more years I had to sell it, got back to a Max, brand new 2018 SV. Difference in power, features and comfort is night and day between the two. Especially on long trips - the Camry killed my butt and my back after a two hour drive. The Max - total comfort.

I have owned nothing but Maximas since October 1984, and have loved every one of them. I am one who is happy Nissan moved the Maxima to a CVT tranny. I will never own another car that does not have a CVT. I am getting 33 MPG on freeway trips. Never got that with a manual or auto tranny Maxima.

And that 'vanity' side of me is happy every time I show up anywhere in my 2016 Platinum. Also has the nicest interior of any car I ever owned. I have a daughter with a Camry and a son with a 2016 Accord Touring. Even my son likes my Maxima better than his Accord.
