Hello all, thinking about replacing my crossover with an 8th Gen and wondering about problem areas to look out for?
I've heard complaints about the CVT and claims of high maint cost. Any truth to these claims?

 

I spend 90 dollars on it in two years so maintenance is not a problem. Oil changes every 5k for this car so that helps on costs. As far as CVT most 8th gen maximas have been holding up good because its the newest version of the CVT.

 

Thanks for the info! I really like the look of these cars and the interior design as well. I've been reading thru some of the threads and noticed some issues with paint chipping. Is that on certain years or colors? Not that it really matters too much since I get rock pepper chips often from all the highway travel I do.

One other off the wall question...does anyone offer a performance/scoop hood for the Max? I do like my exterior mods

 

I have had eight Maximas and they have all been essentially bulletproof

There's no earthly reason to put a hood scoop on one...

 

The only mods I would do is exhaust, suspension and tints. I would possibly do custom headlights too they look great on the maxima.

 

LOL there typically is no earthly reason to put a hood scoop on anything but a pure race machine, yet many cars have them. Most factory scoops are aesthetic and not functional although a few serve as heat vents. Styling choices are individual. I'm personally not a fan of the coilover "slammed on the ground" with wheels off camber either, but if the person who owns it digs the look, then mo' power to 'em. Most said I shouldn't have put a scoop on my 2013 Taurus either, but after it was painted and installed, more liked than not. To each their own!

Well, now that you have informed me of the aesthetic improvements made to your Taurus, which was a ground breaking design in its' time, I say have at it!

Seriously, I have probably driven Maximas well over 800 K miles since 1990, and my out of pocket expenses, excluding tires/ wear items have been next to nothing- a wheel bearing at 80K on my '92 SE, and two coil packs at 120K on my '98- I had a passenger side airbag failure on my 2003 and the $800.00 bill was covered- out of warranty- by Nissan. The cars have all treated me very well and i just picked up a 2020 Sunst Drift SR six weeks ago- car is awesome!

Got 30k on mine, and so far no major issues.

Of course you won’t get Lexus level quality or resale value, but it has comparable features for not as much money. Not to mention the Max is far more stylish
