CVT reliabilit
CVT reliabilit
Does anyone know how well the Maxima's CVT holds up, especially after the warranty period (50,000 miles)? I've read/heard horror stories about Nissan CVTs in general and Altima CVTs in particular, but not so much the Max. This will most likely be the factor that determines whether I end up trading this car fairly soon or keeping it for the long haul. Thanks!
The first generation CVTs did have problems. Nissan has fixed that with the new generation. Any complaints you read about now that are not first hand are from people who are repeating what they heard about the first gen.
I've read and heard that the latest generations of CVT are pretty darn good, at least no worse than average.
Havent heard of many folks having problems with their 8th gens. A few folks who thought they were having transmission problems found out it was something else, like the throttle body
Of course there's always the random lemon

For the amount of money you're dishing out, you may want to consider a certified pre-owned 2015 Lexus GS-350 (F sport or regular). More power, RWD, 8 speed standard auto transmission, more luxury, more bells and whistles, more of everything.
Last year I bought a 2014 Lexus GS350 F-sport with 29,000 miles. Couldn't be happier.

super moderator of Maxima.org telling folks to pass on the Maxima, this is heresy!

. I do browse this forum regularly and haven't noticed too many CVT complaints either.

Still love 4th and 5th gens
