What exactly does a art y pipe go?

Hello. I’m brand new to this site. I tried to search for a post already about this. So I apologize if there is already one for this.

I recently bought a 2017 maxima. I already put a axle back exhaust on it. N now I’m gonna buy the mid pipe for it. N I was looking at also getting the ART y pipe. My question is this. Where exactly does the y pipe go? Does it go from the headers then on to the mid pipe? I want to make sure I’m not buying something that I don’t “need”

I hope you have not lost or misplaced your ability to Google "What is a Y pipe exhaust"

YPipe exhaust systems are in use on cars with six, eight and more cylinders when only one tailpipe is desired. This kind of exhaust system isn’t as efficient as a dual exhaust system. It’s because the single exhaust pipe can’t provide the same amount of flow and low resistance to flow that two separate pipes can provide to the tailpipe. There are many different designs of Y-pipe exhaust systems. In some, the Y-pipe looks exactly like a capital letter Y. In some the pipe more closely resembles a T. Most are designed to connect together right after the exhaust manifolds and before the catalytic converter.

A y-pipe will negate what you were trying to achieve installing your cat back system. Stay dual or semi-dual exhaust for the best sound, although probably insignificant power increase from the cat-back. Enjoy your Max. We all love ours.

That is incorrect. It will enhance performance.

Look at the Motordyne ART Y pipe here: https://motordyneengineering.com/pro...gm-art-y-pipe/

Have you seen the stock set up on your Maxima? Yes, our cars do not have a true dual exhaust system. This ART set up is larger diameter than stock.
