Higher mileage 8th Max owners out there

Hello everyone. I just crossed 138,000 miles on my 2016 maxima S. Car is been pretty solid aside from usual maintenance which in some cases I’m overdue on. I’m about to change out the CVT fluid for the first time along with the spark plugs. Here are a few things I notice at this mileage and curious if any others are seeing this or other high mileage advice:

When I stomp on the gas, I smell a white burning smell just afterwards in the cabin. Sort of exhaust but sort of not. Definitely not electrical. Thoughts?

hearing a clunking noise front right strut. Assuming it’s a bearing issue that needs to be fixed.

The rotors on this car I’ve never been right. After many replacements of pads and machining the rotors, they always seem to go back to vibrating. I’m thinking they’re just warped early on and can’t recover.

Fuel economy has been phenomenal with this car considering the power. I do lots of highway driving. Has anyone used sea foam in an eighth GEN Max yet? I used it on my third and fifth GEN and always had good results when adding to a full tank of gas. I’m thinking something needs to be cleaned with this many miles :-)

cabin filter. Good God Almighty. Could they make replacing the cabin filter any harder. Same goes for the headlights. Not griping too much but.

Apart from that, minor issues with trim coming unglued and the fact the clearcoat and paint on this model is not the best and swirls like crazy. Hope everybody’s doing well!

Rotors should never be machined on these cars. New>. the width is just adequate, so go with rotors along with caliper and pad hardware replacement. Also, have the brake fluid flushed. The book calls for every 20,000 miles.

The guy who designed the cabin filter setup should be shot.

Definitely do the CVT fluid change and insist that the internal filter be changed as well.

Use a Chevron TECHRON fuel injection cleaner every 5000 miles. In your case, I'd add a can for every tankful for a month. This can be had @ any Walmart, either online or in the store.

Thanks. All makes sense.

I’m guessing machining the rotors is exacerbating the problem of being flush then warped feeling as they become thinner and thinner.

So Techron vs seafoam, any reason one vs the other?

Techron has served me well for many decades. Don't have any experience with Sea Foam additives

Yes modern-day rotors are made to be lighter and therefore thinner. Long gone are the days the mfr gave any turning or machining margins.

Good luck and report back as you restore the car brakes etc.
