A/C diagnosis

Newbie, shade-tree mechanic here-
Desperately need help troubleshooting my 2016 A/C problem. I’m trying to keep away from my local dealership because of how they like to lie and overprice parts/labor.

History =
I recently changed the alternator and found it easier to wiggle the alternator past the compressor if I disconnected an A/C hose on the compressor, which allowed me to position it out of the way, for the alternator and thought I’d address the air conditioner recharge later 🙄 Well, alternator fixed my “limp mode” problem and now it’s time to address my A/C.

problem =
A/C will not “pick up” refrigerant when it’s introduced, after having been vacuumed. I’ve taken the car to 3 different HVAC mechanics and all are just as confused as I. What’s so puzzling is the compressor clutch will function properly with the dashboard controls. But runs continuously without refrigerant. Everyone says it SHOULD NOT even kick on without it.

The last mechanic could only guess at his diagnosis;
1. There is a blockage in the system.
2. Pressure switch on the receiver dryer bad
3. Expansion valve (in the firewall) is stuck
4. The compressor control valve (inside compressor) is bad or
5. The compressor is bad
6. Or, a combination of all these 🤷🏼‍♂️

All I did was remove one A/C line from the compressor and re-installed it after I bolted up the new alternator. Me and the other mechanics are at a standstill. I’d hate to think I’m going to have to replace the whole system just for removing one line?

When each mechanic pulled vacuum, they all were convinced that there were no leaks. After waiting about an hour, each one would attempt to add refrigerant in the usual manner.

What all of us don’t understand is why the compressor clutch would engage and run continuously, without refrigeration?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

if the compressor is running without Freon in it then the low pressure switch has to be bad or is bypassed
also running it with no Freon/oil in the system will quickly burn up the compressor.
hard to offer more help without having gauges hooked to it
