8th Generation Maxima (2016-) Let's see what Nissan has to offer on the 8th generation Maxima

Why won't the front doors unlock when using the inside handles?

Why won't the front doors unlock when using the inside handles?

In all my past cars (not Nissans) if the car doors were locked and I was getting out all I had to do was use the door handle and the door unlocked and opened. Does Nissan have that feature? I know it's a trivial, first world problem but I'm just curious as it's a tiny bit annoying to remember to unlock the door first. Plus the button unlocks all the doors. The feature in my past cars would only unlock the door being opened with the handle and the other 3 doors would stay locked. So anybody know what I'm talking about?!

The Maxima uses cables these doors for the inside handle to lock unlock. What I typically find is that the Plastic breaks right at the handle clasps it's attached to. There really isn't a fix that will last other than replacing the door lock actuator they come attached to. The lock actuator it self typically is the failure and won't lock or unlock the door. I prefer to remove the inside handle and actuator together these days. Once the cables are snapped in. They don't come out without being broken. You would need to remove the door panel to check This.

Maybe dude who responded is confused or I'm confused (very possibly me). Are you saying the inside lock lever (small lever on front door) does not lock or unlock the door, or are you saying if all doors are locked and you pull on the big lever from the inside that on previous cars this both unlocked and opened the door with one tug?

You are understanding correctly. In my maxima when I pull the door handle on the inside, to just open the door, it will not open if the doors are still locked. I can only open a door from the inside if I press the unlock button first.

Are you saying that the door locks do not unlock automatically when you shut the engine off? You have to manually unlock the car doors after engine shut down?

My door handles unlock most of the time after shutting off engine but every now and then they don't and I have to hit the button to unlock. I have learned to live with it and don't really care however the impatient girlfriend *****es every time.
