Intermittent clicking when turning at slow speed
Intermittent clicking when turning at slow speed
Hello. My 2016 maxima platinum is occasionally making a clicking noise when I turn left or right at slow speed. The technician can not duplicate the sound. They inspected the front end and all seems fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Any CV boot grease noticed under the fender?
The CV boot could be bad and going dry off grease…
If the wheels spinning and you hear the click, vs no click when not spinning, then check the calipers/rotors for debris, slider pin out of position, etc
go into an open lot, open door and listen carefully which side, where noise coming from etc…take all safety precautions using this maneuver…using scissor 8 turns..
finally, Jack up car booth wheels, start car then perform stationary drive to see if noise replicates… take into consideration all precautions

Thank-you for responding to my problem.
I will check the wheel wells for signs of grease and take the car to a quiet parking lot this weekend. I had the struts replaced this spring and noticed they reused the nuts that attach the upper portion of the struts to the car. They're Monroe quick struts and they should have all the hardware included. Is this a regular practice (reused hardware)?

I don’t foresee a “nut” being the problem, and now that you mention strut replacements last spring, I would focus here.
the strut mount if not new, and if not replaced is a likely culprit, next to the torque on the nut… going w the former.
start car, stay in park, then turn steering back and forth ( do not-go to full lock, just half turns)
listen carefully for sound. Even better if you have someone in driver seat making the steering turn while you/designee listen.
if you bought the full assembled strut, plug n play, nothing else except removing the peripherals (wheels, tie rods, move speed sensor etc), then take out old and drop in new strut, hhhmmmm. And click continue… probe more as I described above rotating steering wheel in Park
if you hear click, then go probing even further.
click while wheel spins:look at all moving parts
without wheel spinning, check suspension and parts moving w it

I have done what you suggested over the weekend. My wife can hear the noise also. She turned the steering wheel left and right while moving very slowly. I am sure the problem is with the strut bearings. I could hear what sounded like opening a old gate with rusty hinges. I believe the sound was near the top of the strut. Also the sound is more evident after driving for about half an hour. I have to take the car back to the garage. The labor is good for one year. I don't know about the struts though. Anyway Thank-you for your advice and I hope to have things fixed up soon.
I got news from the garage about my car.
They took it for a good drive and when they got back to the lot they could hear the noise. It is the strut bearings and they are installing a new pair covered by Monroe. Hopefully problem solved 🙂
