Remote engine start not working
Remote engine start not working
I was involved in a front-end collision with my 2017 Maxima, primarily impacting the front passenger side. After getting my car back from the body shop, I noticed that the remote engine start no longer works. I'm concerned that the impact might have damaged or affected the hardware components. It's possible the body shop didn't realize this, and I would like to discuss it with them. Is the antenna or receiver for the remote start located under the hood? If so, where exactly is it located?
I ensured that the remote start setting in the car is enabled and replaced the battery in my key fob, but my Maxima still won't remote start.
Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your response. Yes, it was an insurance repair. The body shop informed me that I need to drop off my car for a day or two for them to conduct an evaluation. I’m not concerned about the repair process itself, but I’m more interested in finding the location of the sensor for the remote start.
Thank you for your response! Could you please confirm if the module is easily accessible when the glove box is removed? Is it possible that the collision had an effect on the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module? My keyless entry functionality continues to function properly, and I have not encountered any difficulties with remote door locking or unlocking. I am aware that multiple antennas are utilized. The front passenger side was impacted. Could any component or antenna in that vicinity be transmitting a signal to the RKE module?

Here is a technical service bullitin that covers the problem you are having with remote start.
One of the things the ECM looks into before remote start occurs, the hood has to be closed. Maybe the sensor that tells the ECM that the hood is closed is missing or not working.

I wanted to share an update regarding my situation with the car. After taking it to the body shop, they performed a comprehensive diagnostic scan to check for any issues. While the scan did reveal some unrelated codes, there was nothing directly tied to the problem I’ve been experiencing. During the inspection, the technician pointed out that my car’s battery voltage was low and explained that the remote engine start system requires a minimum of 13.4 volts to function properly. Has anyone else come across this before?
Additionally, I learned something interesting about the remote engine start system. The antennas for the remote engine start feature is located under the rear package tray (the panel behind the rear seat) and the rear bumper.
