K-Sport Coilovers Talk
I have an altima but my ksports just keep getting better and better.... I notice some noise, but it seems like something you just accept with coilovers, its not that bad... I lube all the rubber with Energy Suspension jizz to minimize it. I drive through NYC with these things. It amazes me that I can ride through NYC with these spring rates. I'm gonna go down one notch in spring rates when I can get a good price and nice weather gets here. I'm also on 40 series tires with heavy 18s. Im only scared that something will break.
But I definately think these are great coilovers.

And there you have it... yet another advertisement for chassis stiffness (the Altima always had a stiffer chassis than the Maxima).
Subframe connectors are $250 shipped (or less) from Warpspeed, a stage-2 lower tie bar is less than $200 shipped from BlehmCo, and a front strut tower brace is $50 (Otto Racing) to $130 (Stillen). You just dropped $700-$850 on your suspension... don't skimp on this stuff!

my ksports should be here any minute, since it sounds like the install is easy is there anything else that i need to know or do before i put them on or while putting them on?
i dont know what settings to put everything at in the beginning so i hope the ride isnt terrible because i wont have time to tinker with it again until sunday.
thanks. i'm so excited!

my warning to all... just make sure those brake lines are secured and away from any moving parts. i learned the hard way... my driver side brake hose was just slack enough to touch the axel. i didnt find that out until i was pulling up to a light yesterday. i hit the brakes, but no worky worky. luckily no one was in front of me and i had time to use the handbrake. it looks like the axel wore down the brake hose and i sprung a leak!!!!!
in any case, my max fixed and better than ever...

installed mine today! and it took just about all day 9am - hour or more lunch break- to 7 30. but i got my height set pretty much and no preload. so now i just need to mess with the dampering and what not.
worn out, but learned ALOT.
thank you to mdeezy and d00d!
will update more late.
heard some creaking in the rear as i was turning in reverse, other than that, no sounds so far.
cornering is nice but seems like the wheels dont straighten out as fast as i can turn haha. is that oversteer?
waht did everyone do with their ABS line?, there were brackets for the brake line but not the other one. i just tied it with one of those ziplock tie's. tied the lines together sort of to avoid sagging of the one without a bracket.
anyway, goodnight.

No Prob
. I believe the lines will need ot be zip tied. I saw a pic where someone rigged up somethig to hold the lines, but zip ties would do.
Must have been fun, going from stock to Ksports.
Now i have to learn how to adjust these D2s... boy have i got a lot of reading to do.........

haha, you know i've been following this thread since it started and reading it all confused the crap out of me. but after i spent some quality time (just me and the ksports one on one) it didnt seem TOO off the wall confusing.
man my maxima had the saggiest a$$ i've ever seen before i corrected it. drove around with it like taht and i got at least 5 head turns ahhaha.

Here is an update on my coilvers since i was the first to get them....
Since i have had them i have set them about 1 turn away from full soft the full stiff thing was getting a little annoying
ever since than the ride has become bareable again.
I havent had any major problems and i rarely get and clicks from the suspension maybe once a month at the most now. Everyone must remember to tighten down everything!!! and i mean EVERYTHING
Has anyone noticed with the colder weather that they are a bit more stiff for the first few minutes your ride on them after they have been sitting for a few hours in the cold? im not sure if its all in my head.... i may just be being a little paranoid haha
so far i love these coilovers, and do not regret buying them at all, it has been about 8 months now with no problems (knock on wood) When i read Doodfoods post about the rears going out it kinda scared me, but considering that i have had them longer and i dont have a problem yet im just hoping that it was a rare case.
If anyone runs into any problems PLEASE post them in this thread so that we can keep track of them for future reviews on these.

this reminds me, you said that the fronts arent interchangeable. the ONLY thing i coudl see different about them were the camber plates.
so basically i had the camber plates by themselves and bolted them up to the side they fit on with the lines running this way > = = (ksport logo facing the outside of the car). is that the only part that wasnt interchangeable because i couldnt see any difference in the coilover it self, only the plates.
another thing, the plates didnt line up EXACTLY with the holes. i had to pull them up snug by using a ratchet. Like the studs lined up but they were off just enough to where the threads would catch on the side of the holes. anyone else have this problem?

To answer your questions in order:
1. Oversteer is when your rear end slides out toward the outside of the turn. Not quite sure what you meant by the wheels not straightening out fast enough... could you explain in more detail?
2. The lines in the camber plates should be approximately horizontal (and you're right, they're really the only thing that makes the fronts not interchangeable between left and right). AFAIK, the only other orientation that's physically possible is front-to-back, which is clearly very wrong. So if they're approximately horizontal, then you're fine.
And yes, my problem was really a freak occurence (still haven't figured out how it happened). No reason to start a panic.
But yes, we should gather some reports. So, let me repeat.... everyone check the first post in the thread!

Oh. That's easy to explain.
You need an alignment.
Plus, the entire geometry of the suspension has changed, so the forces acting on the steering are different. So you can expect it to act a little differently.
EDIT: nismology beat me to it...

So you say it should be all the way in either direction?
I'm guessng the setting it came with is in the middle. I was on a bumpy road and it was pretty jumpy haha. Ima mess with the dampering, all the way to soft, that's what you have dood, right?

Jinsu, I am getting VERY frustrated with this company, I understand they are small/new, but that is no excuse for doing business like this...If anyone has any contact info for Ksport please help.
I finally got intouch with Ksport and after some He said/she said...every thing got straightened out. They told me to send in the fronts for the issues I was having (nasty creaking sound/oil leaking) So I'm happy. I am however still going to go with a spring/strut combo for a smoother ride but MAN am I going to miss the handling. So as soon as the Ksports are back they are for sale.......$400.00 + shipping, Pm me if u are interested. Thanks for all the help every one!!!!!!

Glad to hear you finally got some satisfaction! Persistance does pay off! I can sympathize with wanting a smooth ride back, but I just love the way the car handles now, even with my snows on. In fact, now that I've got the 17's back on for the winter, it makes them that much more bearable. Good luck with the spring strut combo. I hope you find something you like.
Wow. The man goes from stock GLE suspension to Ksports and says it's smooth. I think Ksport may be onto something here.
But don't forget to account for the roads. On mostly smooth roads, the Ksports will feel better than stock to most people because the car is in control and doesn't wallow or bounce. But it's a completely different story on rough roads because the spring rates are just too high to absorb the bumps. The car is still in control and it still doesn't wallow or bounce (much), but the jolts you get are much harder.

I think my car feels smoothER now that I can take turns without being thrown to the other side of the car.

Texas roads are near perfect for this type of suspension. Flat, smooth, open roads are where u can really appreciate coilovers for all that they are.

I'm sure my next statement is common sense and people already took the pre-caution but I'll say it anyways.
Zip Tie your brake line and such out of harms way!!
I was adjusting the ride height on my car. I looked behind the hub and saw the akward chewed up looking plastic line. . . upon futher investigation, I found it to be part of my brake line that was caught, and grinded/melted from being stuck in a high friction place! I'm about to zip tie that Biitch waaay out of the way. I ment to do it when I first put the coilovers on but for some odd reason I decided to wait till I was going to adjust the height (ended up being 2 weeks later).
Had I not worked on the car tonight, and gone out like I was thinking to do, I could have lost my passenger side brake (no pressure), and when I go to brake. . . get a tragic surprise.
be safe!

Actually I'm on D2s, and I dont know specifically the name, but the brake line that would normally pop into a holder like on the stock struts. I was seeing copper wire when I pulled it out from behing the axle.
Was really causing a problem ,as it wasnt properly secured so it would not lead to a problem. Figured I'd post about it here, since the Ksports also dont have what the stock struts had to hold the brake lines.

hey i remember someone saying something about a groaning sound from their suspension in this thread... dont really want to look it up.. any idea what thats about? i think im getting a groaning sound from mine.. when did it happen on yours? mine happens when i accelerate in 1st and goes away..
