K-Sport Coilovers Talk
Sorry, I don't know how I didn't see your response.
The d2 website said something about their new set up being more durable.
Do you think its possible that hitting a huge pothole really bad would just kill the shock instantly?
Its weird cause I hit a curb going probably 30, and it was enough to bend my wheel but the shock always seemed fine.

Please... Never complain about anything again. Ever.
Oh, I don't doubt it. My dampers have survived quite a few very hard hits as well (construction holes).
All I'm saying is that when you put your super stiff, non-ultra-high-end suspension through that kind of abuse, you can't expect it to come out intact. Think of it like turning your car on after it's been sitting at sub-zero temperatures for a week and then immediately banging it off the rev limiter for a minute straight. Will it be okay after that? Probably. But should you be surprised if something breaks? No.

anyway, enough of that. oddly enough, the car feels kinda similar in its stock form to the ksports...i cant explain how exactly though. obviously the handling isnt comparable. the tires feel happier though.

No Maxima applications yet, but maybe if you ask really nicely...
This might be a good alternative, though -- expensive and for race use only, but it has their "reinforced internals":

changing dampening
How to I adjust the dampening of the ksports? I recieved mine used without documentation. All i know is somthing about using an alen wrench in some slot. So, I removed the nut in the very center, and used an allen wrench in the hole. However I kept twisting for over a minute and there seemed to be no end, so im guessing thats not the way. Please help.
I mean something not specifically for off road. But good with bumps and **** as well. Ya hurrrd.

If it's good for racing on rough terrain, that means it's very good at soaking up lots of small bumps to keep the wheels on the ground while at the same time providing a reasonable amount of body control. In other words, it'd give you more body roll, but also a much smoother ride and much better grip and traction on rough roads. Isn't that what you want?

Maybe I'm asking for too much. I want a suspension that can do both. I still want to be able to drop it down low and have all the height adjustability. The kontrol pro's just got me goin like 15 mph on some of the back streets out here.
Btw, on ksports website they have a picture in the banner and I'm not positive what it is but it reminded me of those in-cabin dampener control they were coming out with soon. I wonder if its out yet.

But you're not asking too much. Here's what you need: http://www.bose.com/controller?event...lenge.jsp&ck=0

And BE CAREFUL putting that top nut back on. You have to torque it down to 45 lb-ft EXACTLY, without letting the shaft spin...

And d00d I asked nick or whoever I talked to at Autoline last time I called and he said you could hold the shaft from moving with your hand since its only 45 lbs and if you have airtools tighten the nut and itd work like that. He said you basicaly just don't want the shaft spinnin like crazy. The shaft turns when you turn your steering wheel apparently, which makes sense to me. I never thought about that before.
Anyway, it was reassuring to me, that my hand could hold 45lbs and I could gauge it by that. I am fairly sure I torqued my rear nut down tighter than that though when I replaced it.

I spoke to him a few months ago and he told me they used a special machine to do it....
i was thoroughly cleaning my coilovers and noticed a little bit of rust. around the pillow ball mounts (tiny bit) and on the threads at the bottom of the dampener on one of the rear's.
is the shock body coated with something that could be corroding?

is anyone surprised to hear from me again about a blown dampener? well, my front left one has a leak. It felt a little bouncy as i was driving today and i went to take a look, lifted the seal boot cover, and what do ya know....some nice oil resting on the top.
Ksport covered my front right strut under warranty despite it being expired by about a month. Well here i am 2 weeks later, and ive asked them my options. I dont feel like installing my stock suspension again, because i just switched back to my ksports YESTERDAY.
If i have to dump 100+ bucks on this dampener im not gonna be happy at all. so...here we go again.

P.S. Fixed the spelling of "damper" for you.
P.P.S. Yes I am your mother.
Damn, I've been writing dampener all over the place.
And yes, this is the one I rammed into the curb, failing almost last in order of the failing dampers which I did not ram into curbs.

It sucks they dont do advance replacement anymore, because i really....really...dont feel like putting my stock suspension back on AGAIN.
This post has little relevance.....just wanted to let others know how disappointed I am in these coilovers. I have one blown "dampener" for sure...feels like all four. My old civic had ractive (or some crap) coilovers and blown stock struts and rode 15x better. I would recommend these to no one, can't wait to get them off. It is never good when literally EVERY person that rides in my car comments about how rough the ride is....so bad it will actually make the CD player skip multiple times just driving 15 min to school everyday. I have to drive like 15mph everywhere cause it feels like my car hit a curb going over bumps you can hardly see. They were great for about 4 months (good ride, handling, what I paid for) and since then nothing but trouble.....and KSport is so great they make you pay shipping (both ways) to get them fixed and if you send in a non-defective part they charge a maintenance fee. That is some service to go with a fine product.
Not to ***** up the other thread, this is for doodfood:
Anyway, as i said before, my car rides like COMPLETE AZZ right now, its extremely hard, springy, and just feels horrible overall. Handling is great. I want to get softer springs. Jinsu told me its 220 shipped for all 4 springs, which is basically what good aftermarket performance springs cost, but thats irrelevant to this discussion.
Anyways, if i go down 2kg on all 4 corners, will my ride improve a ton? I'm in love with the handling, but this ride is honestly making me want to regret buying these things at times. I didnt expect them to ride anywhere near stock, but this sometimes feels like i have a solid suspension.

Yes, dropping 2 kg/mm all around will make a big difference in ride quality. That will bring you down to 7 front, 4 rear. For reference, 4 kg/mm is damn near stock for the rear....
Picking spring rates is complicated, though. With 9/6 springs, your front springs are 50% stiffer than your rears. With 7/4, your fronts are 75% stiffer. That means you'll probably have even more of an understeer bias with 7/4 than with 9/6.
Then again, if your weight reduction has affected the rear end more than the front end, you may be forced to have more of a front-biased ratio for ride quality anyway...
Do you have any way to tell how much your weight reduction affected the rear vs. the front?

I'd bet all of that probably adds up to around 100 lbs. That's not nearly enough to warrant dropping down by 2 kg/mm all around, IMO. You'll run out of suspension travel really quickly. If I were you, I'd go with 8/5 or 7/5.
I'm not sure if Ksport offers a 5 kg/mm spring, but you can always get one from the ERS catalog. It'll probably be a better spring anyway...
