K-Sport Coilovers Talk
when did they switch to a new oil seal manufacturer? Is this kind of a subtle way of admitting that there was a more than normal failure rate? I have had a couple struts replaced in teh past couple months..if i got the "old seals" then that sounds kinda like i got a poopy end of the stick.
we'll see how long they last. btw i'm running full soft in the back and stiff up front and it feels pretty nice.

They switched oil seal manufacturers last Fall, but didn't say why. Here are some possible reasons:
- Ksport's oil seals had problems.
- The old oil seals were fine, but the new ones were better.
- The new company gave them a better deal.
- The old company couldn't supply enough seals (either because their production was reduced or reallocated, or because Ksport's sales went up).
Now, since Ksport hasn't told us why they switched, we have to guess. But that's a problem because:
- We don't know if the seals are the biggest problem.
- We don't know how many kits are sold overall.
- We don't know how many people are actually setting their coilovers up correctly (people keep coming out of the damn woodwork saying really stupid stuff about their installs and thinking they did it right).
So, yes, it could be that their old oil seals were poor, and that they hope the new ones are better. But there are also so many other possibilities and variables that we have no way to tell for sure. Was the problem really in the seals, or was it in some other part of the damper? Maybe everyone is screwing up the install? Or, maybe it really, truly isn't as much of a problem as we think it is from reading a thread in which no one ever posts except to report a blowout. Lastly, we don't even know whether the new oil seals will make a difference.
So, basically, you can't logically conclude anything from this.
See what I'm saying?
I've looked through other car forums and haven't really heard anything bad about them except for the usual noises that they fix. I'm still interested more in the gt pros though but haven't found anyone with them yet.
i hear ya d00d. i'd personally feel more reassured if they just admitted that the old seals were causing problems and the new ones are gauranteed to be better. Because next time one blows, i really dont know what im going to do.
sOOO.......I just installed my front coilovers on my max. K-sport and I have had nothing but problems. After Me and my buddy got them installed and put everything back together there was this HORRIFIC grinding popping noise when you put load on the axle and my toe angle and my steering wheel eas at like 3 o clock?. SOOO my thoughts were........the left axle fell out of the hub when installing but we put the axle back in. The funny part is tht the left side if fine now but tht horrific grinding popping was on the right side. I have replaced the right axle and now i still get a little rolling popping type noise. I dont think the hub is causing it because its not really riding tht rough or doesnt sound louder when taking a left turn. Any thoughts?

but really though...just take everythign apart one more time and make sure it's installed correctly.
DO NOT BUY FROM THAT PLACE.
There is no such thing as one kit for '95-'06.

This is the GD forum from which I got them:

And also, being I have 56K, I need some help finding something I dont feel like spending 3 hours looking for. I remember seeing a kinda "how-to" on the proper settings for the collars in this thread. If I want, say, a 2"F, 1.8"R drop, anyone have any pics of their setups, as well as simple instructions on how to properly "preload" the springs slightly, so I can avoid the noise problems? Or at least point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Thanks
Zero preload. No more, no less.

ok, I just thought I remember reading somewhere that like 1/4 inch of preload should be used not only to suppress noise, but to also prolong strut life, because rather than the struts being fully extended(no preload) or quite compressed (lots of preload), it was supposedly better in terms of longevity...
??
Thanks though.

...Huh? Where did you read that?
Adding preload extends the damper.
It also shouldn't make any difference to noise unless something's wrong with the install or you forgot to grease the spring isolators.

and dOOd, one more thing... I am putting these on either wednesday afternoon or thursday morning. is there a difference between the left and right? I thought I remember seeing somewhere where the camber plates have to face forward/backwards parallel with the car, rather than angled, right?
when i hit a bump my driverside rear coilover knocks against the trunk as though the top bolts aren't tight but they are. I have no clue what is causing this or how to fix it. Any help would be wonderful.
ps- ima newbie so if this question is in the wrong place please forgive me.

So i slapped some 18s on after my 5speed swap and decided to lower another .5 inches all around.
While working on the rears, i turned one of the shocks upside down and oil started dripping out
I emailed ksport support on thursday but have heard nothing from them
Going to try calling them on monday.
How much do they charge for an out of warranty replacement?
EDIT: or do/can they repair the broken one for less. Kills me because the car was stored for the winter so basically i rode on them for less than a year (bought March '06)

You'll have to ask them how much they charge... I think it's something like $100 + shipping.

Ksports ride a little harder than Tein Basics.
Ksports come with camber plates and adjustable damping. Tein Basics do not.
Nex GTs are very new and pretty much unknown. I don't want to badmouth a product I have no experience with, but I have to say I'm not too inspired the fact that their marketing materials are almost entirely generic nothing-speak and contain some weird distortions of fact (e.g. they say cavitation is boiling of the fluid in the damper). It's clear that they're aiming at the very low end.
At least Tein is a well established brand, and Ksport is trying to compete pretty directly with them.
Well for me the top priority is ride comfort... any setup I choose will handle better than stock, and the roads by me are crap so I need as much travel as possible. The K-sports have a good rep, but they're stiff as hell, and with the 36-way adjustibility (totally unnecessary IMO) they'll be a pain to set up properly.
I know people with Nex coilovers on other cars and they haven't had any problems. The only thing I'm afraid of is noise on the front strut, as I'm only familiar with them on Hondas, which have double wishbones in front, and don't have pillowball mount issues or anything like that. They're also closer to Teins as far as the spring rates go, and of course, less expensive. I'd be down to be a guinea pig, as I haven't heard anything bad about Nex's stuff from people who've had them.

For the rest, check your PMs (don't want to take this thread too far off-topic).

I bought a set of Ksports from Bran808, one was blown but it was an awesome price. I have yet to install them, I've read this thread and it seems that there are a few people who've had bad experiences and people who they are too stiff for. Right now I have Tokico Illuminas set at 3 and Eibach Pro springs. I love the drop and I like the stiffness. I was wondering if anyone has gone from this set up to the Ksports? I finally had a chance today to get them checked out by Ksport. I had a great experience there. They said yes one was blown, but they are also the older model. They now click and I would have two types if they replaced one. So, they replaced the two fronts for $120 and offered to replace the keys for the fronts when they get more in. The front keys are shorter now.
What's up guys,
I just got my ksports today and am putting them on... actually about to put the first one on now. Driver front...
What I don't understand is why there's no "good starting point" adjustment info.
Does anyone have any info on what worked for them? What height? Do I need to preload? And if so, how much? The dampening can be adjusted any time, so I really just need info on how to adjust for the best height before putting them in. I don't want to end up taking them on/off if someone has a good height adjustment info.
The intructions suck completely. "OFF ROAD ONLY"... WTF?
Any help as soon as possible would be super....
thanks
