Blehmco BBK Question:

My fitment is correct however when I drive around, I hear like my rotors scraping the brake pads.

Is that normal?

I'm assuming I have to drive around until the pads wear down to wear they clear the rotors fine?

I have brand new pads and brand new OEM rotors. Sorry for being a noob

Could it be the dust shield scraping on your rotors? If so, just pull it back some. If it's truly the pads on the rotors, there's a couple of things to check... first is, does your car feel sluggish when driving? That could mean a stuck caliper.

drive around the block a couple times using the brakes as little as possible, then feel all four of your rotors. If one is hotter than the others, you could have a frozen caliper. First check the dust shields like soundmike mentioned. That's a very common issue.

The brackets may be off a little so the rotor doesn't go evenly through the calipers (closer to one side than the other).

I had to use some thin washers to space the caliper a bit so it would stop touching the rotor with the caliper body.

Yup. That was the problem. Fixed that and it was good to go.

thanks!

Sorry to revive an old thread.

I have a new problem.

I'm 99.9% sure I spaced out the caliper correctly to align the rotor BUT, at around 30mph my brakes (i'm pretty sure) are making a horrible groaning noise. I originally thought it was my driveline, so I installed a SS clutch line thinking that my clutch wasn't bled properly and slipping or something, turns out it wasn't that. I replaced both axles with Raxles, but I'm 100% sure I installed them correctly.

I'm 99.9% sure it's the brakes. It's hard to localize where it is originating from since it's a low note.

My setup:

300zx 30mm
Axxis Metal Master pads
OEM 2k4 rotors

I think it could be my pads/rotors that are bad, since I scraped the crap out of the rotors on the caliper body during the first install.

I'm getting:

RTP crossdrilled/slotted rotors
Axxis Deluxe Plus pads

Any advice?

pull everything apart and look for signs of rubbing on the inside surfaces of the caliper.

don't go too crazy.

Also something that I dunno if it's been mentioned and I've seen it as an issue a couple times..

The new powder coating company I use lays the stuff on pretty thick. this creates some additional offset and possibly a bit of 'angulation' due to the powder between the mating surfaces of the metal. you might find it advantageous to file/grind/scrape the powder off the mating surfaces between the knuckle and bracket and the caliper and bracket.

Matt, here's what I did:

1) Removed your brackets, cleaned the powdercoat off of the contact points to the knuckles and the calipers with my wire wheel on bench grinder.

2) Filed the fukin shiet out of my 300zx aluminum calipers where Josh (Irish) told me to grind.

3) Got my 2k4 OEM rotors resurfaced

4) Got some brand new Raybestos pads

....and that mother still makes that stupid sound at like 5mph, I have a question, if the brakes are not bled, can it possibly make that sound? It's almost harmonic, like a whooo whooo kinda deal.

I'm thinking that since it's not bled, when the brakes are warmed up, the pad kinda sticks to the rotor a bit and makes the noise.

I'm very much confused. I need your help Matt!

^^^I took off my brake master cylinder to install my SS clutch line, but the thing is, even before that it made the noise. I didn't bleed it since.

It made the noise since I dumped the car, but now it's raised and still makes the noise.

You know, I just might have to file some more? Or perhaps get some aftermarket rotors?

Wait, you have Jeff's brake kit.

It doesn't exactly relate since we're talking about the Blehmco version.

Put dabs of paint where it could possibly rub. Reinstall and rive around again. Then, reinspect and see if your new paint is gone/scratched. If so, more filing is needed.

I might do that.

I ordered 04 RTP slotted rotors from Automax, I'll file more before I put them in, hopefully that fixes it.
