I found a guy whos parting out his 6th gen and hes willing to sell me the rotors and calipers off of it - front and rears. i'm looking to get an idea or what i'll need to do to complete the upgrade. i'm thinking welding some brackets onto the existing knuckles? perhaps i should try to get the hubs from him too?

any help is appreciated.

 

OK you asked, so here goes.

Please forget ANY plans to weld any part of your steering or braking systems. These components are critical and should not be modified this way.

That said, the 6th Gen front brakes will bolt right on the 4th Gen by simply drilling out the two caliper mounting holes on the torque member (on the car) from 12mm to 14mm. The brake lines will work also. You will need at least 17" wheels to clear, and certain ones won't, for instance 05 Altima SE 17" & 00-01 Maxima SE 17".

Rears are totally different. Parking brake is inside the rear rotor on a 6th Gen, and the rotor size is not a significant upgrade anyhow. Forget them.

 

Buy the rotors I have for sale in the 6th gen forsale forum. They are MUCH better than the ****ty oem's.

so is it that the 6th gen rotors will fit on 02 17" rims? I want to make sure I can upgrade the brakes on my 98 before buying rims. I don't want 17's that won't fit better brakes. Thanks.

So instead of drilling 4gen TM, can we use 6gen TM? or is it because it wont bolt on to the knuckle?

 

I was wondering the same thing, the guy I'm buying the brakes from is selling his knuckles too and I'd kind of like newer wheel bearings, especially with the corners I've been taking with these new springs(80mph+).

 

from what I've read, the 6th gen rotors and calipers fit up to everything after drilling that bolt hole.

 

you need more then just the caliper to mount the 6th gen to a 4th..u drill the holes to allow the 6th gen tq member to be mounted to a 4th gen knuckle or watever its called...

 

I am assuming you mean the torque member, or the part that the hub and strut bolt on to?

6th Gen front wheel bearings are larger, as well as the two strut mounting holes.

Haven't actually tried it, but it looks doubtful.

I never saw a good pic of a 6gen brake setup, so maybe it is obvious that it wont bolt up to 4gen?

 

Any reason why you would want to use the A34 unit and not the A32? Strength/age bother you?

 

You're not going to be using the 4th gen torque member. You're going to be using the full 6th gen calipers and drilling the holes on the knuckle that the caliper attaches to in order for them to fit. The 4th gen TM would not work with the 6th gen caliper.

iirc 350z brembo brakes bolt to 6g, so does that mean a 4g owner could use those brembos if mounting holes are drilled out and used matching rotors?

If the 350z takes the same knuckle as the 6g, then after drilling the 4g mounting holes it would work.. i'll try it when i get more money

 

it works...ive seen it measured up on a 6g knuckle and it will bolt right up to ours

 

But what's the point if we can get 300zx 4-pot calipers for much less $$?

 

what about brembo rotors for the 300zx? would they work?

 

the baller golden color i assume or maybe a larger overall caliper/ pistons...i have never seen a 300zx setup off of a car so i cant comment

 

mounting 300zx caliper is not as simple as drilling out 2 holes

They cost more but I expect them to come down a bit later on.

actually i'm more like in north st.pete area, I dunno why everytime I'm on gandy somebody revs on me. Last weekend I lost to a 5.0 LX on rt19, it was a85-86 model.

are they loaded calipers? you need the mounting brackets and everything with them. some places will just sell the caliper, like just the sliders and the piston in their housing, with nothing to slide in.. lol you'll have fun trying to mount that up
