Update.

Just talked to the head of technical support/distribution of D2 racing (ooo ooo) and he says for the new spring perch I don't need an isolator and if its a banging noise I need to check the preload, because something is loose. I will check it tonight.

Update.

The source of the noise is actually coming from the top nut that holds the OEM rear mount to the coilover assembly. It is an M12x1.75 nut with a nylon locking insert. The problem is the nut keeps backing out, even when tightened all the way, and even with a lock washer used.

I used, from top to bottom, the lock nut, the lock washer, and a flat washer to hold the mount. What's wrong here, anyone know?

pictures? I never encountered such problem and I dont remember seeing a lock washer on mine. Did you finally get the lock rings loose? Make sure you dont put preload or anything on the springs. As long as they are snugged, you'll be fine.

I don't have pictures at the moment.

I didn't get the adjustment collars loose, I'm more worried about the top nut backing out on me. The reason why one side is not doing it is because the top not was sold to me with the coilovers, and on the other side that is having this issue was a lock nut with the same specs that looks exactly the same that I got from a hardware store.

Word to the wise. Just tighten the nut to the recommended spec and not past if it keeps rattling. You can and will break the threaded portion if you over tighten (don't ask me how I know).

Pretty much the whole time I was on D2s (a year/ 10K miles) I fought issues with the passenger side front and noise. I had determined the pillow ball mount to be at fault but with Stillen camber plates a rarity and KSport with an unproven record (this was '05) I went a different path.

It's my opinion that pillow ball mounts in both the KSport and D2 setups are the weak point and with a more stock style mount they would be greatly improved.

Thumbs up Advice

What up Maxima peeps,
Read most of the post here on suspension and lowering. I need some advice on lowering my 06 max. So far all ive done was put a set staggered 20 inch MHT NEWPORT wheels .Fronts are 20x8.5 , 245 35 20 rears are 20x10 285 30 20 NITTO INVO TIRES. Im thinking the only way I can lower it is with coilovers. Any advice or recommendations on how to lower and best coilovers for this type of setup will be appreciated .

Thanks

Dude rethread the shaft of the coilover and throw a new bolt on and be done with it. The threads are probably worn down and stripped out thats why the bolt is backing out on you, it happened to me on my old car and I just rethreaded the top and got a new bolt.

Yeah, actually I did fix this problem, I took the coilover to a hardware store and found an all metal (standard, not metric) locknut and it worked perfectly.

Ugh. Dammit...

I tried to adjust the height of the front coilovers and one of the Hex bolts is stripped. I'm thinking about having it drilled out, will this destroy the threads inside? I'm gonna need to replace them anyways so if I grenade the sh1tty hex bolts in there I'll just get new ones, but I'm nervous about hurting the threads in the lower mounts.

Any suggestions...?

Thanks for the help guys.

Don't worry about blowing the threads....if they're wrecked, just drill them out and use a nut.
