motor guys, need help with options
motor guys, need help with options
Ok coming up in about a month maybe two max I will be parking the maxima to build an engine. My original plans are as follows.
Pull the motor thats in there now and rebuild it with
Ross Forged Pistons 9-1 compression
Toga main bearings
Performance Wrist Pins
Copper Head Gasket
eTC..
plus either nitrous orFI havent decided.
But I'm highly interested in staying all motor. So my other ideas are as follows. I'm looking at all my options park the car pull the motor and rebuild or keep driving the car and build a motor
2k-2k1 motor with 3.5l crank and rods
2k1 lsd 5spd tranny
Possibly the jwt cams, but for sure cattman headers etc.
2k2 Motor and 2k2 6speed- I have a feeling with needing a new ecu, etc..this may be the more time consuming and costly route.
vq30de, mevi, cams, and 3.3l bottom end. 2K1 lsd tranny.
Reason I was thinking 2k1 motor is I'd have the variable intake already in place I wouldnt have to do anything other then wire up a rpm switch to fire off the switch over.
Maybe some of you guys could have better input as to what my best option would be. I dont have a truly ulimited budget but I dont have a problem with buying a spare engine and rebuilding it.
Thanks

I'm going the full 3.5 swap route, and I'm checking how much it would cost me to lighten/balance my crank.
To give you an idea on the pricing:
I found an engine for 1200$
MAF 200$
ECU 150$
Wiring/Fuse Box E-Gas ?? Have yet to check this one (but I called a junkyard where they have a 2002 and he said he still has everything on it so I only need to make a list), but all in all I don't think it will cost me more than 2000$ total of parts. I bought a 1995 Haynes manual and the wiring doesn't look that bad once you get the idea.
Vasily found an entire parts car for 1550$ US but he was lucky. And he had to go through the trouble of pulling everything out of the parts car too. Scavenging parts here and there seems less time consuming to me.
I will have a shop pull my 3.0 out and drop the 3.5 in, with Cattman headers while I'm at it, and I will do the wiring myself. The labor will be under 400$. Keep in mind that the 2000$ in parts is Canadian money, that would be around 1650$US. Not bad.
I say if you're going to go through the trouble of doing this swap, do what vasily did. The 2k1 may have some power up there, but the 3.5 is a torque monster

Using the VQ35 rods in that configuration is a complete waste of time. You're far better off using a complete VQ35 shortblock or even a VQ35 blockk with a 73.3mm crank with matching rods and custom pistons. They'll need to be VQ30 spec pistons but sized at 95.5mm and with the appropriate dome design for your desired compression.
Ok I think I misunderstood what I needed to use from the 3.5. So I actually need the entire shortblock from the 3.5 then just slap on the 3.0 heads??
Do I use 3.0 head gaskets?? or 3.5 head gaskets......Thanks guys.
