VQ35 valves in VQ30 heads

Does anybody know if it is possible to use the larger VQ35 valves in the VQ30 head?

Or alternatively, is there another option to increase the air flow through the VQ30 heads?

I'm not sure if the valves from the VQ35 would seat well on the VQ30...

Porting and polishing the heads might help...although I'm not really sure how much of a gain you'll get. The VQ30 heads are pretty well designed from the factory...

Also getting the VQ35 heads on the VQ30 would definitely help out a lot. It will lower your compression by quite a bit which is good if you're thinking of forced induction setup..

You can get more air with a larger tb....

Yeah, you can install 2001 Pathy heads although you probably wouldn't want the drop in compression.

IIRC from several of SR20DEN posts, the VQ35 valves are too short/long, however the VK45DE valves are pretty close and are made of Ti. Ferrea makes VK45DE valves 1mm larger, which a machinest and a valve job could make work.

Just off the top of my head....

What would the Pathy heads drop the compression to? Or if you know the Pathfinder compression ratio I can figure it out myself.

I'm getting a spare set of VQ30 heads to play with, maybe I'll try the VK45DE valves. I've got a real good head guy to help me.

Using online calc and assuming some things, I get 8.78:1.

The advantage would be that you could possibly use the VQ30 LIM/intake manifold/etc., since the Pathy use low angle ports like the VQ30 and has the same gasket. Later VQ35s use high angle ports and matching LIM, so you'd need to run their intake manifold, ie more messy install.

A disadvantage though is that the Pathy VQ35s uses less aggressive cams, but you could always swap them to later cams or aftermarket cams(might require JWT sprocket adapters).

Got any VQ35 cams?

Tilley, do you know whether the VQ35 valves/buckets/lifters/retainers will work in the VQ30 heads?

Stephen,

If you're seriously looking for stock VQ35 cams, I'll find you a set. May take awhile though, but I see them every now and then.

Actually, japmaxSE might have a set for sale.

I believe the exhaust cam will work but intake cam is 1mm bigger so may need some work. everything else will work.

That's just the weights...where's your posts about the valves lengths/sizes including the VK45 Ti valves?
