Removing pre cats on 02 3.5

I've heard that it may be possible to remove the pre cats on the 02 Maxima by using the exhaust manifolds from a specific 00 or 01 maxima.

On previous maximas the pre cats were located in the y-pipe. On the 02+ maxima they're located in the exhaust manifolds and the aftermarket y-pipes don't eliminate them.

Does anyone know about this? If so, What type Maxima do the manifolds come from? Also, which y-pipe would I need? 5th gen, 5.5 gen or neither?

Emax once used a 95/96 manifold....but why do that when you can get headers?

Was thinking it would be cheaper and easier. I could probobly find a set of used manifolds pretty cheap. Also I'm trying to keep the car as quiet as possible. I know it would increase the sound some but not as much as headers.

I have headers w/ stock cat-back, and it's very quiet, you can't even tell they're on.

I think Emax's best dyno was 228 WHP, that was with those ex. manifolds and a 3.0 y-pipe.

Nm here it is from the dyno slips section

Wow. Are there actual physical differences in the manifold between 5th and 5.5 gen? I think SR20DEN did this. If there is are no physical differences besides the precats in the manifold they can be gutted and O2 simulators can be added on.

Got any info SR20??

MD: the answer is no if you are looking to make power. the answer is yes if you just want to eliminate the precats.

What is the point of eliminating the precats if you car wont make more power?

I think you miss the point.

If you get headers: you will make a lot of power and eliminate the precats

replacing the manifold: make a little power and eliminate the precats
