Important question about RPM sensor
The 3.0 is out and the 3.5 is on the chain block, clutchnet is in, engine bolted to the tranny. Problem is, the RPM sensor (the one that reads and counts the teeth on the flywheel) from the 1995 tranny won't fit with the new engine block/tranny jonction. Something about the hole isn't right.
3.5 block has a different little shape in that area, making the hole at the tranny/engine block jonction different so the sensor won't fit. Do I get the 2002 RPM sensor? If so, how do we know the '02 sensor fits with the 95 tranny/02 block jonction?
Important, it is needed for the RPM/mph/km/h gauges.

"RPM sensor" = CPS? If CPS, then....
I used all 3.0 components and the trans mounts up no problem
I had to use the 3.0 pulley and the sensor mount is on the oil pan which is basically the same as a 3.0 except for the flywheel side CPS is but I just ground it flat cause it was off like 1/4 inch

You do have to swap some of the parts of course.
The 3.0 ECU needs to see the sensor on the front cover, the 90º reference and the 1º crank trigger. All of which can be swapped over.

Grind the block down so that it's even with the transmission....

Thanks guys. One problem is that I am doing the same swap, but using the wiring and ECU off a 2002 5-speed Altima, with my 1995-speed tranny (Because the transmission is the same as mine, except that the 1st and 3rd gears are geared differently on mine).
I thought about that but was worried that for 2 reason:
1. That the sensor wouldn't read the flywheel correctly if it wasn't placed 100.00% perfectly.
2. That the 2002 3.5 Altima ECU might not be able to read the 1995 sensor.
For the different gear ratios:
1995 Maxima tranny (5-speed): RS5F50V (the following are gear ratios from 1 through 5):
3.285 1.850 1.206 0.954 0.759
2002 Altima tranny (5-speed): RS5F51A (the following are gear ratios from 1 through 5)
3.5L Engine (2002 - 2004) 3.153 1.842 1.258 0.947 0.772
So the gears aren't exactly the same. Don't think this is a problem, though. SR20DEN changed his tranny from a 02 to a 04, on which the gear ratios are the same, but the final drive is 4.13 rather than 3.82.
