Timing chain tensioner help

For those of you who have taken the VQ30 down past the main timing chain I need some help. I am a bit confused on the parts for the tensioner for the main timing chain. It is a steel part with two bolts that hold it to the inner timing cover. Inside of it is a spring and a plunger. I also have a little black plastic part that I think rides inside the spring to perhaps help the spring from binding or somthing. I cant remember if that little black plastic part is actually a component of the tensioner or not, it was in my parts bin, looks like it goes with it, but I am not sure.

Hope this helps. BTW, are using the 3.5 cams?

My tensioner consisted of only the tensioner and spring. I lost the spring, so I went to the hardware store and bought a spring that had the same tension as the 3.5 tensioner. Hope this works.

I don't remember there being any black thingy inside the tensioner when i removed it. Just the spring and the plunger.

the black piece goes on inside of spring i think the oil pressure hit the plastic and pushes the metal part out too make tension.... Too bad we cant use the 2k2 tensioner or even the 2k5 which is plastic...
