5speed vs. VQ35 swap
I am kinda stuck right now.
I have one of two options:
Option 1 - Keep the auto. Stage II VBmod w/ tranny cooler, VQ35 swap TUNED.
Option 2 - 00 5speed swap. Re-tune with port match Pathy TB.
I would end up with both way down the road in a year or two. It doesnt look likely that I can do both right now.

I voted for 1, but mean't 2. I think you would have more fun with a 5 spd swap until you saved up for the 3.5. I know, I can't stand driving autos, plus you're probably putting down quite a bit of power with your current mods too, making driving a 5 spd even for fun for the time being

Im also leaning towards the manual swap. Even though I am not a good driver(I can learn fast hopefully ) I really dont have a way to transport the VQ35 which is my main problem. I can go get the manual on Thursday and put it in my trunk.

I voted 5spd swap because who knows if your auto(even with vbmod) will be able to handle the 3.5, if it blows then you have a problem because you will either be forced to find another auto and drive like a grandpa...
or 2 be forced to dish out the cash to do the 5spd swap that you've spent on the 3.5 already...
5spd swap your 1/2 there doing 3.5 might set you back a couple steps if that auto blows.

02-03 is a different part # than the 00-01, but same ratios.
00-03 Have the same ratios.
02-06 2.5L 4AT Altimas have the same tranny part # as the 02-03 Maxima...but a different f/d.

Lol, I'm responsible for bumping it back even.
Neal said it best. How hard and often you close the front door of your house determines how long the hinges are going to last. Same holds true for transmissions. I'm not at all convinced that the auto is weak but if you do the swap and blow your tranny shortly after like JapmaxSE you're in for a solid kick in the *****.
The best case scenario has you winning 10k at the lottery and not having to ask yourself that question again

Not an option
If I get another car it will be a G. No more FWD. But until then Maxima is here to stay. Paint job and lip kit go on as soon as I do one of these major swaps.

G this G that. The G is a great car but its funnny how everyone in here rides its nutz.
I may also ultimately end up getting a G but i know its not the best out there. There was a 6 Speed G35 coupe in my family for 2 years and its an awesome car but its very tempermental. As is the M35 sport that now resides in its place.
When you do decided i suggest looking around before you make your final decision.
In response to your orignal questiong. get the 5speed swap.

I do feel kinda compact in it. But I do love the engine note and the 5speed auto is very responsive. We have the aero package on ours so it looks nice from the outside too. Surprisingly ours does not rattle on the inside.

The 6 speed coupe and the auto sedan are diffrent animals. My brother gets G35 sedan loaners all the time and they are day an night.
I looked at a 6speed black on black at the dealer with premium package A and aero kit i will probally get. It was 35k but I am positive i will have it for $30.
If you looking for something hot from toyo and lexus, Loook at the new IS350. Its a bit pricey but its the fastest in its class and very sharp looking car as well, i couldn't get it since I prefer manuals but if you can live with an auto i say do it.

So he has the 2.5 V6? or the 3.5 V6? the 3.5 can only be had with the 6speed suto and the 2.5 with the 6speed manual?
