6spd in a 4th gen, what axles?

Like the subject says... I searched and couldn't find the answer... I'm putting a 6spd (with lsd) into a 4th gen. I need to know what axles to use. Thx.

4th gen manual axles.

Edit: Just noticed it's gonna have LSD. In that case i'd imagine the driver side axle must be an LSD axle.

REALLY.... Damn that's badass.. I didn't know the 5spd and 6spd used the same axles... sweet.

Let us know how hard the conversion from rod-driven shift linkage to cable-driven is. My bro (who has my old car now) might swap back to a 3.5 next year and he wants to use the 6-speed.

BTW, is it possible to use the 5-speed maxima flywheel and clutch?

There is no "conversion". You just remove the 5-speed shifter assembly and rods and bolt on the the 6-speed shifter. It has to be the A33B shifter since the A34 shifter is different and won't bolt on. Then you run the shifter cables through the A/T control cable hole in the firewall.

According to Tilley the metal where the mount goes is not thick enough to drill and tap. How did you manage to bolt it on?

Eagerly awaiting pics...

So are there any electronic mods required for the swap? What about speedo issues?

Thanks

The 6-speed uses the same axles for the open diff or HLSD when used in a 5.5th gen. I know the 5 speed has different axles for HLSD and open diff.

I don't know too much about the 4th gen and I'm not recomending anything. Just thought the info might be helpful.

and on that note i realized i never really got the answer i was looking for in this thread. So basically the question now is, do I use a stock 4th gen drivers side axle, or a 4th gen LSD axle which is thicker... The 6spd 5.5 gen axle is the same size regardless of LSD or not... so which axle would I use with a 6spd in a 4th gen then? vsamoylov or tilley might have to chime in for this one since they would probably know.

waht year maxima is the 6 speed tranny comming out of? the reason for that question is the axles are different length in the 5.5 and the 6th gen.
easiest way to answer your question is by asking how many splines are there in the 4th gen hub and how many splines are there on the 6 speed axle. if the numbers match up then go for the 6 speed axle. hope that makes sense.
