Physics and air flow experts please chime in....

Okay, here's my situation. I'm doing the 00VI swap, want to keep the 4th gen LIM (have a spare), but don't want to rig the LIM to only use some of the 8 00VI UIM bolts. So here is my proposition:

Cut, port match, and tap a 1/4" or 5/16" sheet of 6061 to match the 00VI UIM and then tig that sheet to the top of the 4th gen. LIM (matching the ports, of course). I know this sounds like a lot of work, but I have the resources, so it's not that big of a deal. Plus, this would be a new (as far as I know) angle on the 00VI swap. I have two concerns:

1) Adding 1/4" or 5/16" space for the air to travel, effectively elongating the air path both on the long runners and short run of the VI, am I defeating the purpose of the 00VI?

2) I'm unsure of the aluminum composition of the LIM and whether is would accept a tig weld.

And please, no "just use the 00 LIM, injectors, and fuel rail" comments. I know that would be the easier route.

All technical comments are appreciated.

i am no EXpert....but the 1/4" or 5/16" is only going to help your low end torque...but if definately wont DEFEAT the purpose of the 00VI....u may not see the peak numbers that others see without that kind of spacer.....as far as the weld on the LIM...u just need to se the TIG for aluminum....different materials reuire diff heat and voltages thats y welders are adjustable

Thanks. I was thinking the same thing. I'm new to TIG welding, but have heard from a number of people that aluminum is the most difficult to weld because of the heat issue.

^^ Aluminum is pretty hard to weld, the shop I took my Z IM to even had a hard time.

I agree with MaximaSE96, I think you would get better torque numbers. Don't get me wrong, you'll still see more horsepower, but your power numbers are going to be different from what has been observed from others that have done the swap. Be a guinea pig, dyno the sucker when you're done and let us know!

and yes aluminum is hard to weld so make sure whoever does it knows how to weld aluminum...they they dont u will be buying a new LIM.....but if ur the person welding is good they should be able to do it carefully....
