00VI Wiring Questions

Since my other thread seems to be getting ignored...

Are the ECU pin-outs on Jime's website that he has listed for a '97 going to work if I try to use them for my '95? All I need to know for is to hook up my RPM switch, so I only need to know which is the RPM signal/tach.

AND...where did you happen to mount your RPM switches at? I'll have a sizeable MSD box to mount.

Also, does anyone have the EC (engine control) page for the PDF version of the FSM? I don't have it, and re-downloaded the FSM from phatg20.net and it seems to be missing (for '95 atleast).

It was an old thread that wasn't getting attention anymore. Sure, post a smartass reply, that'll help.

i didn't feel your question was sincere enough, since all your recent posts make it obvious you just want information spoon fed.. search.. plenty of info around.. someone should just organize it.. so why don't you do it?
you have 35xx posts (unlike a n00b like me) so you obviously know how to use the forum
and if you can't search, donate i'm sure that $25 will make up for itself over and over.. you learned about the 00vi here.. right?

let me tell you another smartass thing, i'm full of them:
there's only so much you can learn by reading, the rest you have to learn by doing..

besides, if you really REALLY wanted to know which pin the tach signal is, you'd find it's the same for all 95-99s LOL.

and that msd box is crap, try to set it at 4900, the summit switch is a lot more accurate when set right, and v-afc2 is even better

I suggest you re-download the FSM and read it

good luck with the install, you'll need it

1. Cig Lighter <--> Left Pin (pass side)
2. RPM Switch Yellow <--> Right Pin (driver side)
3. RPM Switch White <--> tach screw (TAM)
4. RPM Switch Gray <--> Ignore
5. RPM Switch Black <--> Ground
6. RPM Switch Red <--> Straight to Battery (with fused wire)

I did search...I don't post unless I search first. I don't need spoon fed, and the information on the 00VI is either non-existant or so scattered it's impossible to find. Not that many people have done it. Posts are necessary. Come to think of it, I WILL make it my project to compile all of it whenever my swap is complete. I know the frustration, so maybe I'll help save people from it in the future.

Sure, which I advocate, but ECU wiring is not something I just want to "learn by doing," especially since someone else has already figured it out.

I wouldn't know that. In all the information I've taken in over the years, that's not one of the bits of info. Nor does it say that anywhere in a sticky or something that I can recall, and I wasn't able to find it by searching. I was also hesitant because Jime's site says "it's reported not all 97's are the same" so it made me wonder if '95 was different as well.

The MSD unit is temporary. I don't have the cash for anything else right, but eventually it'll be replaced by a V-AFC 2.

I have re-downloaded it. The file I need is still missing. That's why I asked if anyone had it.

Thanks.

To gtr_rider and motocross, thanks. That'll make it easier. I had that part mostly figured out, it was the ECU pin-out I needed to know (which I now do thanks to vipervadim). Those diagrams and lists do make it easier on the mind though, so I appreciate it. Although the tach screw would be nice, I think I'll go with the ECU wire since I don't really feel like ripping my dash apart.

I also still need ideas on where to mount the RPM switch

Back when I had my Summit switch I mounted it on top of the large plastic cover underneath the steering wheel. Perfectly hidden and close to all the tapped wires. I also ran a wire from it to an LED on the dash (in the spare cover beside the dimmer) so I could see when it activated.

Hmm...sounds like a neat idea. I would do the LED thing, but I already have a switch there for my O/D (I have an aftermarket push-down shift ****). The LED is a neat idea, just not sure where I'd put it.

I have my summit pushed in below my ecu, it barely fits, I did have it sitting on top of the ecu before and it fit up there no problem. There's also room under the radio, if you pull the shifter trim out, you can see all the room down there.

That sounds like a good idea. I'd like to have it somewhere more hidden, but I'm not sure how big my box is yet (not here yet).

Also, since I have the MSD 8969, it reccomends setting it to 1-cyl. mode for cars with coil packs (it's example is an LS1), is that the setting I should be using? Or doesn't it matter since I'm tapping the ECU wire?

My above question got answered.

New question: how in the world do you find the tach wire coming off the ECU? I can't seem to find any green wire w/ a white stripe in the whole harness

Where are you looking? At the ECU harness or behind the tach?

But if at the ECU (or any other connector for that matter) I would never go by color over pin location. Find the pin location and if the colors match what they're supposed to, great. If not, disregard color and use the pin location.

I did eventually figure it out. Apparently the descriptions everyone gives don't pertain to '95's (mine ended up being white w/ green stripe rather than vice versa) but I eventually figured that out with streezlegend's help and the pin-out diagram.

Switch is in and operational

Also, since I was bugging everyone in this thread as to where to mount it, I came up with my own solution (albeit slightly ghetto at the moment, it'll do):
