SE-R Engine
#42
If you can get a A34, Altima SE-R, or any other newer VQ35 with low mileage at a good price then swap it in and just change over anything that isn't exactly the same (should be minimal). If you can find a 02-03 VQ35 for cheap then just direct swap it. There really shouldn't be anything on the engine itself that will give you power. Getting headers, EMU, and gutting the VIAS would be much better attempt at more power than trying any kind of VQ35 to VQ35 swap unless an HR or Rev up was involved.
The newer VQ35s have external EGR, so just use your older VQ35 IM that doesn't have it. Putting headers on while you have the engine out will save you an enormous amount of time and frustration and give you a very good amount of power.

Everyone knows headers are the best mod for the 3.5 because of their restrictive exhaust manifolds. Cams are not that effective. The y-pipe doesn't provide that good of gains for the 3.5 because the pre-cats are in the exhaust manifold (thus the beauty of headers).

Cams can be very effective, but they are also expensive and hard to install compared to most bolt ons and piggy backs. Look at the the Z/G forums to see some gains from cams.
All headers come with Y pipe. Y pipe by itself will not give great gains on a VQ35.

But all quality headers do in fact come with their own y-pipe that only works with that set of headers and likewise for the headers. (they will only work with their own respective y-pipe)
