Why do the 3.5s sound different from the 3.0s?
My friend's A34 and my other friend's Altima 3.5 have intakes, and they sound exactly like G35s. I've heard modded 3.0s (particularly 4th gens) and when modded they sound more "thrummy" while the 3.5s are more "wailish". Is the difference in the exhaust? I.e., an equal length Y-pipe? Or would it be something internal like the cams?

Also, my A33B intake and my A32's intake sound the same, wailish. The Altima & A34 have nearly idenitcal IM's to the A33B.
Although the MEVI helped quiet it(A32) down a bit and get rid of some of the wail. I'm sure the 00VI will do the same.

The fact that the A32 exhaust manifolds are better than the A33B/A34 manifold is negated by the fact that the y-pipe is more strictive for us A32 folk.

The extra 0.5L accounts for most of the differences, I'd say. It's internal. No mater what exhaust system you throw on a VQ35 it'll always have that same vague roar at high RPMs. The 3.0 doesn't have that. I dunno, it's just a distinctive sound, when you hear a VQ35 you know it.
