i think this is the forum to put it in, if not, can the mods move it to the appropriate forum.

anyway, back to my question. does the stage number of the clutch determine stiffness? or how about the power rating of the clutch.

on ebay, the f1 racing clutch stage 2 is claimed to handle 312hp and 298lb to the crank. the stage 3 of this clutch is claimed to handle 345hp and 315 lb to the crank. the stage 3 clutch doesnt seem to hold the power of other stage 3 clutches do, but its still a stage 3.... is it marketing? is diff. stages just a cool way to say that it can handle more power than stage 2? would there be a big difference in driveability?

I never heard of Gripforce. why would you go cheap on the clutch? how easy would it be to change it out if it would end up being sh!tty?

i'm sure there are other companies like ACT, SPEC, Exedy, Clutchnet, just to name a few, that make much better clutches for the max.
better yet ask what people with your year and your mods use, and what their impression is.

that's all i want to say on that, then, check out www.specclutch.com, and you can read what the difference between each stage and clutch material used for it is. different companies use different materials for each stage, so ACT and Exedy might not be using the same material for stage 2.

and finally: always do a little reading and research before you ask a simple question on an Advanced forum.

No not really.. It depends on the pressure plate.. My SPEC stage 3 had the same pedal feel as a stock clutch.

yeah i got spec stage 3 and it pretty much feels like stock...just gotta give it more gas when you get it out of first gear.

My Clutchnet red PP has the same pressure as the stock clutch did

When I had my ACT stage one though it was a bit heavier then the stock feeling. Kinda got a workout on long trips

i have Exedy Stage 1 (not ebay, and not sure they are different), the clutch has a real nice feel, slightly stiffer than stock. Not sure I would buy it again, from what im told for most of the n/a guys we can get away using the stock nissan oem clutch.

undecided if I will go that route or not on my next clutch, im concerned with quality and durability. So would like something a little stiffer than stock, but tough and realiable.

Any clutch fit that description to anyone?

Plus so many variables, im still wondering if I broke my clutch in correctly. Did put in around 500 miles on it before I started zippping around.

but yeah, i need a good drag racing clutch for my 4th gen, which should be putting out 220 hp or a tad bit under to the front wheels.

well, in my defense, i did some searching and didnt find anything useful. I also didn't suspect this question ever being asked. However, it could have been a more useful thread in the general maxima forum or something. but i have a spec stage 1, and it chattered like a ****. I hate it, friction point changes all the time, sometimes it slips. feels like a sponge. smells like booty when i ride it just a little bit. but I'm in the process of putting in a 3.5 w/ my 5 speed, so i was just seeing what kinda information people could give me. I'd really hate to pay a lot of money for an aftermarket clutch that would only help me put down a little extra power from a motor. would i be able to reuse my spec stage 1 pressure plate on like... an act clutch or something? For a daily commuting driver, my clutch cant be too stiff. Also, my girlfriend has weak legs.

As stated some of the after market clutches feel like stock, some a little stiffer. I've yet to hear a bad complaint about cluthnet cluthces, but its on the pricey side but worth it.

There was an org member who tried one of those Ebay clutches, stage 3 and it felt kinda bad, not as bad as expected but definately something they didnt want to re-buy.

I've heard from many with various aftermarket clutches, they will chatter some durring breaking maybe a bit longer but then smoother sailing afterward.

It sort of feels like there's a lack of smooth transition from disengaged, to engaged. It's either not engaged or completely engaged. This all happens when releasing the clutch pedal into a gear, but for me it was really only an issue in 1st gear..

In order to have a clutch that holds a good amount of power say 300+ hp/tq, its inevitable to get that first gear chatter is what I am getting from this.

its pretty much like chattering teeth when its very cold outside. You feel that between gear changes, usually 1st. Atleast isnts been 1st gear with me.

clutch brreak in periods is 500 or 1000k? Does the 5th gen clutch fit 95-03 maxes or 95-01? Basically is the 6 speed clutch different or the same?

5th gen clutch (00-01) fits 95-01 maximas.

break in period is normally 500miles, you could be on the safe side and do 1K, but thats up to you

5th gen 3.0 clutch is totally different from 5.5 gen clutch. 3.5L has a flywheel has 1 extra tooth, the clutch will not line up right.

IIRC 5th gen AE (2001) OEM clutch = Exedy Stage 1 Clutch

the exedy stage 1 is the same as the 5th gen clutch? no way...

I mean exedy making clutches for nissan and rebranding them to say nissan is one thing...but are you sure they are the same specs (clamping force, etc.)?
