Coil Packs Causing Misfire?

Coil Packs Causing Misfire?
So I have an 00VI, and chose to use my 4th gen rear coil packs. They are not very secure, and in fact the right rear one is quite loose, even when I push down on it. I should mention this is due to the fact that I'm using a 5th gen rear cover with the 4th gen coils (it was supposed to be a temporary situation).
At low RPMs (< 2000), at partial throttle, typically 1st or 2nd gear, I get misfiring sometimes. Sometimes it's barely noticeable, others it's so bad you can feel it. I also get misfiring at idle sometimes in gear, but if I put it in neutral it goes away.
Could the 4th gen rear coil packs be causing this, especially since they're loose?

Aren't ignition coils between 5th gen & 4th gen (atleast 1999 model years) interchangable?
I know the front bank has one-screw coil packs for the 5th gen while the 4th gen has two-screw coil packs. But from what I was told on this forum they are interchangable?
I thought the rear ignition coils are the same between a early 5th gen and late 4th gen?

Electrically they will work, yes. Not physically, at least not entirely.

2 bolt vs. 1 bolt
There are no 1999 MODEL year coilpacks that interchange with 2000 MODEL year ones.
Now, if the 2000 model in question was BUILT in 99, which it surely could have been , well that's a different story.
At least we get it........

Does anyone have pictures of the rear A33 coil?
Essentially my question is this:
will A33 rear coils work on a A32 (4th gen MY99)? I don't know if I got A33 rear coils or A32 rear coils, but I *do* know I got A33 front coils (because they look physically different). As far as I can tell, the rear coils I got look exactly like what came out of the car.
Now in another thread pmohr, you said you are using A33 front coils on your 4th gen Maxima even though they are physically different (one screw hole vs two). Are you using A33 rear coils as well? Can they be used?

Wow old thread. Anyway, shortly after this thread was made I bought 5th gen rear coils and everything has been fine ever since. Other than the right rear coil STILL not sitting properly. It makes good enough contact and is indeed secure, but I have not investigated why it can't be bolted down all the way (the physically will not sit any lower).
Moral of the story is, either use a 4th gen rear valve cover and 4th gen coils, or use a 5th gen rear valve cover and 5th gen rear coils. Don't try to interchange them.

Stupid question #2 (or 10) :P :
By valve cover you mean the plate that says Nissan 3000 V6 on the front of the engine right? I'm curious as to why you would call it rear valve cover. There aren't any on the rear, just on the fronts.
The rear coil packs go between the ridges on the intake manifold.

The valve cover bolts to the head, protects the cams, valves, etc.

The plastic thing that bolts to the FRONT VALVE COVER is the coil pack cover. The valve covers are the metal things that bolt to the top of each head (and yes there are front and rear ones, it's a V6, it has two cylinder banks).

Remember, just because it's a V-engine doesn't necessarily mean that it has two banks

Oh. That clarifies a lot. Well I don't have 5th gen valve covers so I guess those 5th gen coils I got won't fit. I guess I have to return them.
Although the rear bank igition coils I got looked exactly like what came out of the car. Does anyone know hte model numbers of the 5th gen coilpack and 4th gen coil pack? Or a side by side pic?
THanks

My suggestion? Rather than try to get rid of your 5th gen coils, buy a 5th gen rear valve cover. They aren't expensive (don't forget to get a new gasket), and at the very least it'll be easier for you to change PCV valves when you need to

There are pics of the 5th gen rear coils on my site under "Universal Parts List". Your main identifier will be 2 bolt holes (4th gen) vs. 1 bolt hole (5th gen).
