Shift_Fast_2 diagram just in time for Xmas !

Here is a link to a wiring diagram for my MSD-controlled Shift_Fast_2 transmission shifter and nitrous controller that got me to a 13.158 ET at the end of this season.

The MSD 8969 is about $100, and the rest of the Radio Shack parts probably total about the same.

I need to make a parts list, but I did the diagram at work, and the parts list was at home...

Maybe when I get my V-AFC 2, I'll use my current 8969 and send it to you to build me a unit

Dreamer - but I could use some ideas on where to mount the package.

The front seat works fine for a temporary test bed, but this needs to disappear somewhere in the cabin. The relay bank is all mounted on the double-gang blue plastic plate, but there is a Race/Normal switch and Reset pushbutton, the MSD, and a large capacitor to deal with.... Any ideas ??

run the electronics in glovebox or under the armrest and run the buttoms in the trim next to the shifter on the passenger side

Hummm... My glovebox is off-limits for installations, so the relay bank could go in the center console storage thingie and the MSD maybe under the dash on the driver's side ? There is space above the pedals, I see. I'm going to have to punch a bigger hole for the 6AN nitrous race hose on that side anyway.

The Reset PB and Race/Normal switch could go right on the console...

This is the hardest part for me - making everything fit correctly and neatly...

Ehh, if you are looking for some cheap electrical components, and have the time to wait, try a few of these sites:

www.digikey.com
www.newark.com
www.mouser.com

Also, I might be interested in putting my soldering skills to work. Used to run(a small) business making, modding and fixing RC cars...

Oh, and nice diagram. Been a while since Ive seen one, so I had to look at it a minute. Haha...

I hadn't heard of mouser.com before. I'll put it on my lists..

Did you notice the logic is pretty simple? The relays start out with the tranny in first gear. A capacitor charges up through the first relay and when the MSD reaches set-point, that relay picks and discharges the capacitor through a steering diode into the "A" relay coil. When that replay picks, it holds itself through a steering diode. This is 2nd gear.

A second capacitor begins to charge, and when the first MSD relay picks again, the second capacitor is routed to the "B" relay coil, which picks and holds itself. This is third gear.

Pushing the normally-closed PB allows both relays to drop, thus setting the tranny back into first gear.

With 3PDT relays, this circuit could be extended to shift into 4th gear, using the same logic.

Yeah, I noticed that last season... Shifts were on the programmed shift point every time, and they were fast and hard. Cutting the spray at the instant of shift was a bonus.

The only variable was the launch and going through first gear, and I have a couple of ideas about that....... like programming the first stage to start at a programmed point and the second (and possibly a third) stage to start where I set them....

I think I will set the msd to cut the nitrous at 6400rpms when I get it, oh the msd can controll 2 items right. I am also looking into a mevi and will like the msd to controll the mevi and nitrous cutoffs

Funny - I use a MSD 8969, a door-lock motor, and some custom electrics to flip my MEVI at the programmed RPM - 4800 in my case..

I've started using another MSD to control the Shift_Fast_2 and cut 2nd-stage nitrous, now at 6400 RPMs. Works good.
