Diagnosing check engine codes
Diagnosing check engine codes
What's up everyone. I bought a 98 max with a vq30de-k swapped in it. Car has run pretty good since i have had it, small things like the ac compressor and the radiator went, but that besides the point. Recently i had the check engine light come on. It came on several months ago but went away by itself after a day. But it came on this week and has not gone away...nothing appears to be wrong with the car mechanically aside from when i start it up. The belts were squealing terribly, but i tightened them up, and theres a nasty kazoo sound that it makes...which im assuming its doing because its cold. It made this sound last year when i first got it, and i believe its the starter from what i've read on here. its a 98 starter with the 5th gen engine. I also have a 98 ecu, which leads me to my question...when i goto check what the engine codes are, can i actually trust what it's telling me? I wouldn't think the codes to be correct, but i may be wrong. I feel like i shot myself in the foot by buying a car this modified with out knowing the complete ins and outs of it. I had the maxima dealership tell me that the codes wouldn't be correct when they goto diagnose it, so it could be anything.
