3.5 Done!!!

The swap is finally done! Everything seems to be okay! I did notice a small leak coming out of the coolant tube. Does anybody know if that can be repaired?? Its the line that runs into the heater.

Another thing that I noticed was that the speedometer flucuates up to 5 or 10 mph when the idle increases... I had the passenger side axle on and not the driverside and the car was put in neutral. Have any of you encountered this!!??

All thats needed now is to connect the VIAS to the RPM switch, connect, the exhaust, put back the rims, and test drive it!

Thanks guys!

I just want to say thanks to MDeezy for helping me out with the many questions I had, and also to EVERYONE on the org. for shining some light my way to help me better understand the swap!

I have some video of the first start-up attempt but I just need to shorten it up a little so I can upload it. I'll post it as soon as I do that.

Too bad there isn't a track down there. How about a dyno?

Thanks.... but why does it affect the speedometer??

That would be cool! Just have to buy the driverside axle, another coolant tube, wire up the RPM switch, and its done! But hit me up! PM me if you do decide on coming down.

There's actually a new track opening up in March right off of I-10 and the Clint exit.... and there are a couple of DYNo's, which I plan on visiting at least one of them.

This is normal.

Your tranny input shaft still turns when in neutral. There is enough drag in the transmission to turn the main shaft if there is no resistance imposed through the final drive.

Put your axles and wheels back on and the "problem" will magically disappear.

The line that runs into the heater?

OK they one I broke like and idiot was the inline fitting for the heater hoses (NOT the one that goes into the firewall). Its straight down from the CC vaccum bubble. If thats what's leaking then go to a parts store and get any hose inline fitting (<$5).

If you are talkin about the fitting that the hose attaches to that goes THROUGHT the firewall, that's a different story. That's one-peice with the heater core so you would have to replace the whole unit for that.

EDIT- Could you give a full list of the components you used for the swap? That's the only thing thats missing here (aside from pictures) :-D

This is where the leak is coming from:

This is what the car currently looks like:

I'll try to make a full list of all the things I used off of the old engine in order for the swap to work and the video of the start up.... had to cut it real short.

There's a clamp on both lines. The leak is coming from where the fitting meets the coolant tube. You can see the coolant leaks out around the fitting, the hose itself is dry.

Why don't you clean it, and use a high temp silicone sealant? That would be the easiest way to fix it in my opinion. Perhaps that piece got damaged at some point.

I had thought about sealing it up with something but I wasnt too sure how much pressure is ran inside those hoses.

The cover is all scratched up from the metal tie downs they used when it was shipped. I'm gonna buy another one off of the local dealership. $70.00 for it.

That's a reasonable consideration, however, seeing as there is only a leak and not spraying or squirting out coolant, its probably safe to say that the pressure won't build up to cause any problems. And even if it did, the worst that would happen is the seal breaks. Then it would be time to figure out something else to correct the problem.

The 07+ cover looks much better IMO. It's like the 5.5 gen cover, but black.

The '07 alti cover looks even better, but I'm not sure if the bolt positions are the same. They're also black but they're a lot higher quality and the curve downward over the o2 connectors.

all i got to say is DDDDAAAAAAANNNGGGG!!!!!!!!!

The car is RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!

I didnt think it would be that much difference!

We took it out on a run... I let my brother drive it first:
WE drove around for a while just cruising it and right away, there was a huge difference in acceleration...

After a couple of turns around the block, we came back home and checked for leaks: None, other than the small coolant leak I mentioned.

We take it back on the road with him still driving:
I tell him to floor first real quick: The car has no traction at all---
The rpms literaly fly to 7000rpm's-- ITS CRAZY!!!

I'm really gonna enjoy this a whole lot!!!!!

During the test drive, my brother asks if I want him to pull over so I can drive it... I was so overwhelmed with suprise that I said no, because I wouldnt be able to resist stepping on it.

I did end up driving it and its amazing!!!

I finally was able to upload the video of the beast's awakening!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=VHe2QosgfLI

I will for sure post other videos once everything is adjusted and good to go! Give it about a week-- The clutch is already broken in(it was on the 3.0), so I'll give it a week and see how she feels.

Was that open headers? We need full exhaust hooked up . Definitely nice job on the swap ... congrats.

Is it always that hard to start an engine when it has been sitting for a while or has lack of oil pressure and fuel?

It was open headers and open throttle body. I usually takes a little while to get a car started... I dont know if it takes this long but the engine was having a tough time because the fuel pressure regulator was not adjusted properly... It was set at 20 psi.. it started runnging once I (the big guy in the video) started adjusting the regulator to 52 psi that it started running.

The intake not being connected also may have had something to do with the car hesitating.

We made a custom-made intake for it using 3 inch PVC tubing for now.. That thing screams!!!! When I drive, theres a slightly large whistle coming out of the intake-- kind of sounds like its turbo'd w/o a blowoff valve.

No, mine only cranked for 2-3 seconds before it fired right up. This is after sitting on a stand in my garage for ~8 months (and who knows how long at the wrecker's before that)

Easy starting has everything to do with good compression, correct timing, a strong spark and of course the correct a/f mixture.

Mine took about 5 seconds of straight cranking before it fired up. Using the DE-K FPR it seemed to run pretty good, even though it wasn't tuned. And who knows how long it's been sitting. And yes... starting it with open headers, idleing at 3k, it was f'in amazing!!

The car is officially a BEEEAAAST!!! The VIAS is now working and MAN, that thing is GREEEEAATT!!!

The first test drive: I press on the gas about 1/4 way down, and it spins the tires hard!

When I really stepped on it, I get nothing but tire spin on all of 1st, most of 2nd, and some on 3rd....

I ended up racing my friend in his fully built, turbocharged B-16 Civic. His car is sick!! runs 12.5's in the quarter--- It really wasnt running at its full potential (needs to be re-tuned), but he called me out.
We first ran from a stop: At take off, I took the lead by like half a car.
2nd gear: we were neck and neck,
3rd gear: My bumper was on his door
Then we let off.... I knew I was going to lose but my interest was in by how much!?

I personally think I did great due to the fact what I know his car is capable of doing...
