Hard starting! Need help!

My car has been extremely hard starting lately and I am getting worried. It isn't throwing a code or anything but will crank for 5-6 seconds before starting. If you have timed a start it's usually less than 1 second. Some times it takes 2 or 3 times to kick. It sounds/feels like the fuel just isn't there and when it does kick it sputters for a second. About a month after I bought it the fuel pump fuse blew on a hard start. The dealer can't find anything wrong every time I bring it back but I know this isn't normal. What could it be? Defective fuel pump? Can you test the fuel delivery with a consult or other program on start up and see if the pump is working or if line pressure is low. I'm lost and the dealer isn't helping.

Thanks in advance!

I don't see how it could be the starter if it's cranking away.

umm, listen to this.... this is when my starter was bad, it would crank forever and not turn over, i got the starter rebuilt, cuz one of the soloniods went bad, they rebuilt it in a few minutes, and i popped it back in, and good as new. thats my story, its up to you to decide what you should try next.

Change your fuel filter first. If it's clogged badly, you wont' receive fuel on cranking, and fuel pump may be forcing to turn against the backed up fuel flow, thus causing sputtering on crank and fuelpump overloading and blew a fuse.

You may want to think again before you post in advanced performance forums. To me, your problem sounds like a general 4th gen discussion thread. Don't mean to flame, but it's irritating to see this kind of thread in this section. Sorry.

I have a 6th gen with 10k on it. I highly doubt the fuel filter would be clogged. I also see plenty of people asking for help because their car doesn't start properly. Would you feel better if I told you the motor was swapped?
